Boston College's Alex Amidon Named To 2013 Biletnikoff Award Preseason Watch List

Senior receiver established single-season school records for receptions and receiving yards last fall

Greg M. Cooper-US PRESSWIRE

Congratulations to Boston College senior Alex Amidon, named to the 2013 Biletnikoff Award preseason watch list, according to an announcement by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation. The Biletnikoff Award is presented annually to the outstanding receiver in college football.

Amidon exploded onto the scene in 2012, establishing single-season schools records for receptions (78) and receiving yards (1,210). The 6-foot, 186-pound receiver from Greenfield, Mass. was an All-ACC honoree in 2012, finishing the season ranked 11th among all FBS receivers with 100.8 receiving yards per game. What's most amazing about Amidon's 2012 record-setting performance is he was able to put up huge numbers while the rest of the Eagles' offense sputtered.

All told, Amidon has 114 receptions for 1,773 yards (15.6 yards per catch) and 10 touchdowns in 34 career games. Going into his final year, he needs 686 yards to break Rich Gunnell's school-record of 2,459 yards set between 2006-09. While Gunnell's school record is in reach, I doubt Amidon will be able to duplicate his output in 2013 under Addazio/Day's new offensive scheme.

Still, a Boston College receiver named to the Biletnikoff Award watch list is a pretty rare occurrence and a nice nod to the strong season Amidon had in 2012. Congratulations, Alex.
