Eagles in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft (BC Interruption FanPost)
As some of you might know, today the 2013 NHL Entry Draft was held at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. It was an exciting night for all the prospects, and four BC Hockey Recruits were drafted!
New Jersey Devils Choose Steve Santini with 42nd Overall Pick (In Lou We Trust)
Santini is a defenseman, so he doesn't fill an organizational need. He's not an offensive defenseman if only because he scored no goals at all in 2012-13 between USNTDP, USHL, and international play. Based on his profile at Elite Prospects, he is big at 6'2" and 207 pounds. It follows he can hit and, as evidence, Corey Pronman felt the same. Pronman had plenty of praise for Santini as he ranked 28th on his top 100 prospects at Hockey Prospectus.
Middlesex Islanders' Sanford to Capitals (Boston Herald)
Zach Sanford was the first local player off the board in Sunday's NHL draft, as the Middlesex Islanders star was taken with the final pick of the second round, No. 61 overall, by the Washington Capitals. A 6-foot-3, 190-pound center/left winger, Sanford hails from Auburn, N.H. and previously played at Pinkerton Academy, where he had 36 goals and 33 assists in 2011-12.
Bruins grab MC's Fitzgerald (Boston Herald)
The wait was probably longer than Ryan Fitzgerald wanted ... but he will be staying close to home. The former Malden Catholic and Valley Jr. Warriors was drafted by the Bruins in the fourth round (No. 120) in Sunday's NHL draft.
2013 NHL Draft: Former BC, Vancouver Canucks goaltender Cory Schneider traded to New Jersey Devils for 9th overall pick (Western College Hockey Blog)
Schneider will likely become the heir apparent to the Devils' future Hall of Fame goaltender Martin Brodeur. Schneider, from Marblehead, Mass., will most likely platoon with Brodeur for the 2013-14 season.
Landry to Check Out Future Home (247Sports) ($)
"They knew how talented I was and they expected these schools to offer," said Landry. "That’s really what stuck with me about BC. They saw my true talent from the beginning and they’re just amazing coaches."
