Boston College Football Odds: Vegas Sets Over/Under Win Total At 4.5

Daring BC to win #5.

Bob DeChiara-US PRESSWIRE

If going by Vegas' expectations for the 2013 Boston College Eagles football team, it's going to be a looooong season for first-year coach Steve Addazio. Today, 5Dimes released over/under win total lines for a number of schools including BC.

5Dimes set the over/under for Boston College at 4.5 wins, which, wow.

BOSTON COLLEGE
Over 4.5 (+140)
Under 4.5 (-180)

Basically, Vegas is saying BC is going to beat Villanova, Army and New Mexico State, and daring the Eagles to win more than a single game in ACC play. There is a silver lining, however. The line for the over is +140, meaning you give us $100 and we'll give you $140 if you win. The line for the under is a little more unforgiving set at -180. Vegas is trying to drive betting towards the over, because they think winning 4 or less games is less likely. OK.

In the Atlantic Division, Clemson and Florida State lead the way with an over/under regular season win total set at 10.5 (with Vegas encouraging the over on CU +165 a bit more than FSU +110).

Vegas doesn't think highly of the rest of the division. Maryland and N.C. State's win totals have been set at 6.5, which probably says less about N.C. State than it does about Maryland with the Wolfpack's non-conference slate of Richmond, Central Michigan, East Carolina and Louisiana Tech sans Coach Sonny Dykes. Wake Forest at 5.5 and Syracuse, along with BC, at 4.5.

Maybe my maroon-colored glasses, but I'm a bit higher on Boston College than Vegas is. Given how weak the rest of the NOT Clemson, NOT Florida State Atlantic Division truly is this year, I don't think BC will have trouble winning more than a single game in ACC play. I probably would have set the over/under a bit higher at 5.5.

The rest of the odds in the ACC:

CLEMSON
Over 10.5 (+165)
Under 10.5 (-215)

DUKE
Over 5.5 (+120)
Under 5.5 (-160)

FLORIDA STATE
Over 10.5 (+110)
Under 10.5 (-150)

GEORGIA TECH
Over 8.5 (-120)
Under 8.5 (-120)

MARYLAND
Over 6.5 (-140)
Under 6.5 (EVEN)

MIAMI (FLORIDA)
Over 9.5 (+150)
Under 9.5 (-190)

N.C. STATE
Over 6.5 (-185)
Under 6.5 (+145)

NORTH CAROLINA
Over 9.5 (+170)
Under 9.5 (-230)

PITTSBURGH
Over 5.5 (-110)
Under 5.5 (-130)

SYRACUSE
Over 4.5 (-120)
Under 4.5 (-120)

VIRGINIA
Over 4.5 (-120)
Under 4.5 (-120)

VIRGINIA TECH
Over 9.5 (+140)
Under 9.5 (-180)

WAKE FOREST #TheRivalry
Over 5.5 (-170)
Under 5.5 (+130)

If I were to lay a bet*, I'd probably throw some cash on the over here. With three extremely winnable games in non-conference play and a group of near indistinguishable teams all with their warts in the Atlantic Division, I just can't seem to shake this feeling that a 4-8 season is setting the bar far too low for Boston College in 2013.

Your thoughts?
