Congratulations to the Boston College women's lacrosse team, a 10-8 winner over sixth-seeded Virginia Tech in the ACC Championship Quarterfinals.
Sophomore Covie Stanwick scored a game-high five goals, setting BC's single-season scoring record with 57. Stanwick's five goals broke Lauren Costello's school-best 52-goal season in 2010. Sophomore Mikaela Rix and freshman Sarah Mannelly each recorded two goals and two assists.
The Eagles advance to play host and No. 2 seed North Carolina in the semifinals today at 3 p.m. You can catch the game on NESN in New England or ESPN3. Full TV listing here.
More importantly, the win keeps Boston College's NCAA Tournament hopes alive. The Eagles (12-6) are ranked 14 / 20 nationally and have an RPI of 12. The National Tournament qualifies eight conference champs and eight at-large teams. Should the Eagles not capture the ACC's auto bid -- no small task having to go through #3 North Carolina (13-2) and #1 Maryland (17-0) -- BC should be on the bubble in terms of getting one of the NCAA Tournament's eight auto-bids.
