Boston College Football To Hold Inaugural Maroon And Gold Alumni Flag Football Game

A new spring tradition for Boston College football.

Elsa

In an effort to increase the attractiveness of the Spring Football Game, Boston College has created a new event called the "Maroon and Gold Game." Featuring players from the past, the Maroon & Gold game will be a flag football game that will give fans the opportunity to see some of their favorite former Eagle greats.

Boston College football linebacker Mark Herzlich (2006-10), wide receiver Rich Gunnell (2006-09), defensive lineman Jim Ramella (2005-09), defensive back Ralph Parent (1999-02) and fullback James McCluskey (2007-10) are among more than 20 former Eagles who will play in the inaugural Maroon & Gold Alumni Game (flag football) prior to the Jay McGillis Memorial Spring Game on Saturday, April 20. The game will be held from 11 a.m. to noon in Alumni Stadium and admission is free.

Teams will be coached by previous players as well as Chris Snee will be coaching one team and Gosder Cherilus will be coaching the other. No word if Tom Coughlin will be giving his son in law any coaching tips before the game. Other players in this event will include:

-- Defensive back Wes Davis (2006-10)
-- Wide receiver Brandon Robinson (2006-08)
-- Quarterback Dave Shinskie (2009-12)
-- Punter Johnny Ayers (2004-07)
-- Wide receiver Justin Jarvis (2007-09)
-- Defensive lineman Austin Giles (2006-09)
-- Defensive end Sean Guthrie (1998-01)
-- Tight end Jordon McMichael (2009)
-- Offensive lineman Ty Hall (2004-07)
-- Wide receive John Hovsepian (2008-09)
-- Wide receiver John Lowell (2009)
-- Offensive tackle Ed Logue (1977)
-- Halfback Jim Sullivan (1959)
-- Cornerback Mark Maglio (2008)
-- Wide receiver Clarence Megwa (2006-09)
-- Defensive back Emerson Phillips (1998-02)
-- Offensive lineman Nathan Richman (2009-11)
-- Offensive lineman Nick Rossi (2007-09)
-- Cornerback Razzie Smith (2007)
-- Safety Antonio Valverde (2006)

I love this idea. I have said for years that BC needs to figure out new ways to market the spring game. Bringing back Eagles like Mark Herzlich, Chris Snee and Wes Davis to Alumni Stadium is a great way to start. Plus I hope Ty Hall's dad is at the game. I miss seeing him with that cooky hat.

On a complete side note, if you can make it to the Jay McGillis Spring Game festivities, please do. Bring lots of friends too. It's free, and there are going to be all sorts of events going on around Alumni Stadium.

Believe me I get why last year's attendance was awful. We were looking down the barrel of another year of Spaz, the weather stunk, etc. But this is different. Addazio is bringing new excitement back to the program, and this will be your first chance to check it out first hand. Plus, a ton of good recruits will be on hand for visits and showing that BC fans do in fact care about the team would go a long way towards getting them in maroon and gold. Show your support and come to both events. Hope to see you there.

Go Eagles!
