Notre Dame will be joining the Atlantic Coast Conference next season. With the disintegration of the Big East conference, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will play basketball in the ACC next season, according to a Sports Illustrated report.
Notre Dame will be one of three new teams in the ACC for the 2013-14 basketball season. The Syracuse Orange and Pittsburgh Panthers are also finishing up their final season in the Big East and will make their way over to the ACC next year. This move brings the ACC to 15 teams for next year. And then in 2014-15, the Maryland Terrapins will leave for the Big Ten and the Louisville Cardinals will move to the ACC.
I'm sure there will be more details regarding the finances of Notre Dame's move and we'll get those as they start to leak out into the public. But one thing is for sure, there's going to be a lot of firepower in ACC basketball next year. It ain't just Duke and UNC anymore.
