Visor or no visor, through the first six weeks of the college football season, Boston College senior RB Andre Williams quietly leads the nation in rushing. The 6-foot-0, 227 pound running back from Schnecksville, PA has rushed for 768 and 7 TDs on 133 carries through the Eagles' first five games of the season.
While Williams and Coach Addazio would be the first to dismiss any talk of individual awards or honors, let's take a look at the school records that could fall this season should AW continue his torrid pace.
Rushing Yardage, Career
Williams entered the season with 1,577 yards on 349 carries through the first three years of his college career. Averaging a ridiculous 153.6 yards a game, he's on pace to more than double his career total this season alone (1,843 yards). While it's unlikely that AW keeps up his current pace, this would give him 3,420 rushing yards total in his career -- good for fifth on the school's career rushing list behind Montel Harris, Derrick Knight, Mike Cloud and Troy Stradford.
Williams has already jumped 12 spots on the school's career rushing yards list this season and if he doesn't gain another yard all season, he would finish 11th all-time.
Rushing Attempts, Career
With just 349 carries heading into the season, Williams didn't rank in the top 12 on the school's all-time rushing attempts list. An additional 133 carries through five games bumps AW up to 11th on the all-time list and poised to pass William Green's 501 career total as soon as this weekend. Williams is on pace to carry the ball 319 times this season (extrapolated over a 12-game season), which would place him third on the all-time list behind only Harris and Knight.
1. Montel Harris (2008-11) - 787 - 40 games
2. Derrick Knight (2000-03) - 708 - 46 games
Rushing Attempts, Season
Williams projected 319 carriers this season would place him second on the all-time list, two carries short of the record set by Derrick Knight in 2003.
1. Derrick Knight (2003) - 321 carries in 13 games
2t. Montel Harris (2009) - 308 carries in 13 games
2t. Mike Cloud (1998) - 308 carries in 11 games
Rushing Attempts, Game
Williams already owns the school's single-game record for rushing attempts, having carried the ball 42 times in Boston College's 2010 victory at Syracuse.
Rushing Yardage, Season
Again, while unlikely to keep up his 153.6 yards per game average, Williams is currently on pace to shatter the school's single-season rushing record. Williams would clear the school record by 112 yards (1,843 yards over 12 games).
1. Mike Cloud (1998) - 1,726 in 11 games
2. Derrick Knight (2003) - 1,721 in 13 games
3. William Green (2001) - 1,559 in 11 games
4. Montel Harris (2009) - 1,457 in 13 games
5. Derrick Knight (2002) - 1,432 in 13 games
Rushing Yards, Game
Williams briefly tied this record in the win over Army. On his last carry, however, he lost a yard and would have to settle for second on the school's single-game rushing yards record (263 yards). Not sure whether Williams will get another crack at this record, but his best last chance will come on November 9 at New Mexico State. The Aggies currently rank dead last in the nation in rushing defense, allowing 340.1 yards a game on the ground.
Rushing Yardage, Play
Williams owns this school record as well with his 99-yard rushing touchdown last season at Army. That was only the second time in school history a player rushed for over 90+ yards, joining Ed Walsh's 91 yard run vs. Brooklyn ... in 1944.
Rushing Touchdowns, Career
For all his production on the ground, Williams has not been overly prolific when it comes to getting into the end zone. Coming into this season, Williams had reached pay dirt just 10 times. An additional 7 TDs in 2013 has Williams closer to cracking the school's top 12 career performances, but he's still got a way to go. Say Williams keeps up his 1.4 TD/game pace (unlikely), that would give him 17 on the year and 27 in his career. That's good for a tie for third on the all-time list, joining Montel Harris, Darnell Campbell and Troy Stratford. Doubtful that Williams will break the school's all-time record set by Keith Barnette (34, 1973-1975).
1. Keith Barnette (1973-75) - 34
2. William Green (1999-2001) - 33
3t. Montel Harris (2008-11) - 27
3t. Darnell Campbell (1991-93) - 27
3t. Troy Stradford (1982-86) - 27
Rushing Touchdowns, Season
Williams has already shattered his career best for rushing TDs in a season, having never rushed for more than 4 in a year. He's on pace for 17 scores this season, which would place Williams third on the school's single-season rushing TD record list.
1. Keith Barnette (1974) - 22
2. Darnell Campbell (1993) - 19
3t. William Green (2001) - 15
3t. Mike Esposito (1973) - 15
5t. Montel Harris (2009) - 14
5t. William Green (2000) - 14
Rushing Touchdowns, Game
With five rushing touchdowns in the win over Army on Saturday, Williams ties Montel Harris (5 TD vs. N.C. State in 2010) for the school's all-time single-game record.
100 Yard Games, Season
Williams is 4-for-5 in 100+ yard games this season. He would need to rush for 100+ in each of the Eagles' last seven games (no bowl) to break the school record set by Mike Cloud in 1998.
1. Mike Cloud (1998) - 10
2t. Derrick Knight (2003) - 9
2t. William Green (2001) - 9
2t. Chuckie Dukes (1992) - 9
5t. Montel Harris (2010) - 8
5t. Montel Harris (2009) - 8
5t. Derrick Knight (2002) - 8
100 Yard Games, Career
This is one of the few records that is safe from Williams' assault on the Boston College football record book. Williams entered the year with five 100+ yard rushing performances and has added four more this season. Even if AW rushes for 100+ in each of the Eagles last seven games, he'd still come up six short of Montel Harris' 22 set from 2008-11. Williams, can, however, finish as high as third on this list.
1. Montel Harris (2008-11) - 22
2t. Derrick Knight (2003-03) - 18
2t. Mike Cloud (1995-98) - 18
4. Troy Stradford (1982-83) - 17
5. William Green (1999-2001) - 13
Consecutive 100 Yard Games
In the loss to USC, Williams rushed for just 38 yards on 17 carries, his only sub-100 yard performance of the season. Unfortunately, that broke up what could have been a five-game 100+ yard rushing performance streak that would have placed AW third on the school's all-time list.
1t. Mike Cloud (1998) - 7
1t. Chuckie Dukes (1992) - 7
3. Montel Harris (2010) - 6
4t. Montel Harris (2009) - 5
4t. William Green 2001 - 5
6t. David Green (1994) - 4
6t. Fred Willis (1970) - 4
6t. Troy Stradford (1986) - 4
