BC Interruption's ACC Power Rankings: Week 7

Talk about a #GOACC weekend for the conference in Week 6. First off we had some teams lay massive turds in their games such as Syracuse, UVA and Maryland. Then we had other teams that just took care of business including Clemson, Florida State, Virginia Tech and Boston College. This weekend could be more of the same as there are some interesting matchups that could produce a few upsets. Could the Eagles be one?

1. Clemson Tigers

Opponent: Boston College

Prediction: Clemson 52, Boston College 28. After pounding Syracuse last weekend, the Tigers get BC, and a 26 point spread. While BC's run offense matches up well with the Clemson defense, BC does not have enough bullets in the chamber to matchup against Tajh Boyd and Chad Morris's high octane offense in Death Valley.

2. Florida St. Seminoles

Opponent: BYE

Prediction: Florida State gets the week off in preparation for an ACC Showdown with Clemson. Last weekend, my prediction that the Noles would have a close one with the Terps was a little off, as Jameis Winston went absolutely off and destroyed Maryland.

3. Miami Hurricanes

Opponent: BYE

Prediction: Miami defeated Coastal Division foe Georgia Tech in a close game last weekend, showing again that they are the class of that division.

4. Virginia Tech Hokies

Opponent: Pittsburgh Panthers

Prediction: Virginia Tech 20, Pittsburgh 10. While the Hokies offense continues to sputter along, Bud Foster has put together a defense that rivals any other team in the ACC. Pittsburgh, who has been getting good press for some reason, will be exposed this weekend.

5. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Lowest: 7

Opponent: BYU Cougars

Prediction: Georgia Tech 24, BYU 21. The Yellow Jackets dropped a close one on Saturday to Miami. Still not sure what to think of this team as it is clear that there is a precipitous drop off in talent from the #4 team and everyone else in the ACC.

6. Boston College Eagles

Opponent: Clemson Tigers

Prediction: Clemson 52, Boston College 28. Look where BC landed this week? I imagine many people are going to come to BCI and think "Oh those homers put BC at number 6, this entire poll is stupid!" But honestly can't you make as good of a case for BC to be here as anyone else? However, as I mentioned before I don't believe that the Eagles have enough defensive weapons to keep up with Clemson and it might be a rough weekend for the Eagles down in Death Valley.

7. Pittsburgh Panthers

Opponent: Virginia Tech Hokies

Prediction: Virginia Tech 20, Pittsburgh 10. The Panthers are one of the biggest conundrums in our poll with a huge variance in voter selection. They have shown that they can be a high powered offense (Duke) and also that they can win a close one with D (UVA), but can they beat the Hokies on Saturday?

8t. Maryland Terrapins

Opponent: Virginia Cavaliers

Prediction: Maryland 31, Virginia 17. Wow was my prediction off last weekend for the Terps. I mistakenly thought that they had enough fire power to stick with the Noles. Boy was I wrong. It looks like our poll love for the Terps was just a little off. Our Terrapin hater is back as well voting them 13th in the conference.

8t. N.C. State Wolfpack

Opponent: Syracuse Orange

Prediction: N.C. State 28, Syracuse 24. A little surprised that losing to Wake Forest last weekend didn't know the Wolfpack down even further. But when you get to this part of the poll it's basically a crap shoot. Speaking of crap shoot, Saturday's game against the Cuse will basically be that.

10. Duke Blue Devils

Opponent: Navy Midshipmen

Prediction: Duke 21, Navy 10. I don't particularly like Duke, but what are you going to do. Navy on paper has a good defense, but they haven't really played a stellar schedule.

11. North Carolina Tar Heels

Opponent: Bye

Prediction: The meteoric collapse of the UNC Tar Heels has to be one of the stories of the year so far for the ACC. Picked to win the Coastal by many, the Heels look bad. Their offense is putrid, their pass defense is even worse, and there is no end in sight for this team.

12. Syracuse Orange

Opponent: N.C. State Wolfpack

Prediction: N.C. State 28, Syracuse 24. Good job, good effort against Clemson last weekend Orange. Welcome to the ACC.

13t. Virginia Cavaliers

Lowest: 14

Opponent: Maryland Terrapins

Prediction: Maryland 31, Virginia 17. Somehow getting destroyed by Ball State gave one of our voters the confidence to actually give UVA a higher vote this week. That's how confusing and widely debated #5-14 can be in the ACC.

13t. Wake Forest Demon Deacons

Last Week: 14
Highest: 14
Lowest: 14

Opponent: Bye

Prediction: Everyone should find a Wake Forest fan and buy them a drink after they beat N.C. State last weekend. I'm sure many of us didn't think the Deacons had that in them.
