Notebook: Without Guptill, Michigan adjusts before No. 4 Boston College (The Michigan Daily)

For the No. 10 Michigan hockey team, Thursday night's home opener against No. 4 Boston College just got even more daunting.

Coming off a losing season in which the Wolverines missed the NCAA tournament for the first time in 23 years, the pressure will no doubt be on in Yost Ice Arena for Michigan's first regular-season matchup. To make matters worse, this young team will skate without junior forward Alex Guptill, who will serve a team-sanctioned suspension, on Thursday before he returns to the lineup Saturday against Rochester Institute of Technology.

Hockey Preview: Boston College (Maize n Brew)
Not an easy way to start the season after losing at home in an exhibition game to Waterloo. The Wolverines will probably be outchanced and outgunned and the Freshmen probably aren't ready to go just yet, but at least we know Steve Racine is our guy, now.

College Hockey: Ranking the Best of the East (SB Nation College Hockey)
Today, let's take a look at the teams in Hockey East, ECAC and Atlantic Hockey and rank them, 1-35. 1. UMass-Lowell 2. Boston College 3. New Hampshire 4. Notre Dame 5. RPI

Top 10: Most pleasant surprises of 2013 (
7. Andre Williams, Boston College, RB: The nation's top rusher is averaging 154 yards per game up from 65 yards per game as new coach Steve Addazio has cranked up the toughness in the Eagles game.

Boston College RB a welcome surprise (

When the ACC media picked a pre-season all-conference football team, Duke Johnson from Miami had 58 votes to lead the balloting at running back and three other backs had at least eight votes. Andre Williams from Boston College was not among them. Six weeks into the season, Williams isn't just leading the ACC in rushing with 768 yards in five games. He leads the country with an average of 153.6 yards per game.

3-point stance: BC's renaissance in 2013 (ESPN)

BC is showing signs of a renaissance under new head coach Steve Addazio. The Eagles, 3-2, already have surpassed last season's win total (2-10) as they prepare to play at No. 3 Clemson on Saturday. The Eagles are more physical at the line of scrimmage, and they are taking better care of the ball. Last season, they lost 11 fumbles in 12 games. This season, they are tied for the FBS lead with one lost fumble. Overall, BC is plus-four in turnovers after being minus-five last season.
