Congratulations to Boston College senior defenseman Patrick Wey who signed with the Washington Capitals as announced by the franchise today. Wey signs a two-year, entry-level contract beginning in 2013-14.

The Pittsburgh native was a key part of one of the most successful senior classes in program history, helping the Eagles capture all four Beanpots (a program first), three Hockey East championships and two NCAA National Championships.

This past season, Wey recorded career highs in points (13), assists (12), games played (37, tied) and registered a plus-14 rating this season. He was named a 2013 Hockey East Second-Team All-Star and named Hockey East's 2013 Best Defensive Defenseman. Over his 133 games career with the Eagles, Wey tallied 33 points -- four goals, 29 assists -- and a plus-55 rating.

Wey, a 4th round draft pick (115th overall) of the Capitals in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, will likely begin his professional career at the AHL level with the Cap's affiliate the Hershey Bears. Congratulations, Patrick!
