Derrick Boateng Nets Golden Goal, Boston College Defeats San Francisco 2-1 In OT

Freshman midfielder Derrick Boateng -- great soccer name, by the way -- broke a 1-1 tie with just 11 seconds left to lift the Boston College men's soccer team to a 2-1 overtime victory over the visiting San Francisco Dons. A USF turnover gave BC a 4-3 break with 30 seconds to play. BC's Charlie Rugg found Boateng who lofted a shot over the Dons keeper and into the far side netting to give the Eagles the victory.

It was Boateng's first goal of his collegiate career.

Freshman Alex Kapp got his first start in net for the Eagles, making five saves -- including one in the second overtime period -- to preserve the victory. The Eagles outshot the Dons 19-13 overall, including a 3-2 edge in overtime.

The W snaps a three-game winless streak that saw the Eagles' outscored 7-1 over that span. Boston College improves to 3-3-1 on the year. It's a quick turnaround for the Boston College men, who are are back in action on Tuesday afternoon as they host Rhode Island. Game starts at 4 PM at the Newton Campus Field.

Go Eagles!
