Boston College Baseball Falls To FIU 14-6

The Eagles baseball team had its first true midweek test of the season, and things didn't go so hot. Junior RHP Taylor Lasko couldn't pitch his way out of the first inning, going just 0.2 IP and giving up six runs, three earned, four hits and a walk and shouldering a 14-6 loss to the Florida International Panthers.

After giving up six runs in the first, BC got one back in the top of the third, but FIU responded with a run in the bottom of the third and fourth innings. A four run fifth inning blew the game open and the Eagles weren't able to mount the comeback.

Matt Brazis also struggled on the mound for the Eagles, going just a third of an inning and giving up three runs, all earned, on three hits, striking out one and throwing a wild pitch.

Offensively, BC's Andrew Lawrence went 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI, while Blake Butera went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Junior Matt McGovern had two more RBIs, while Anthony Melchionda reached base for the 10th straight game. He has reached safely in every game this season.

Per the final box score, the game lasted a total of 3 hours, 36 minutes and the weather was "wicked awesome."

Boston College (6-4) will face Florida Atlantic tonight in Boca Raton. Game starts at 6:30 PM. The Owls are 8-5 on the year but are coming off a 16-1 drubbing by the Florida Gators yesterday.
