Brian: Alright, Jeff. The field for the 2012 ACC Men's Basketball Tournament is now set. Despite winning a total of four conference games this year, Boston College ... is still the 12 seed. To the surprise of no one, really.
The Eagles draw the Wolfpack in the first round. BC lost by 15 down in Raleigh back in mid-January and followed that up with a four point home loss on February 1. It's very difficult to beat one team three straight times in the same season. That said, the Eagles turned in a fairly listless performance in the regular season finale against Miami.
So Eagles-Wolfpack ... who ya got? And predictions for all 11 ACC Tournament games, please.
Jeff: Of all the potential matchups that BC had in the ACC Tournament after their loss to Miami on Saturday, N.C. State had to be the team I least wanted to see BC face. I liked their chances against everyone else out of the potential 4-7 seeds including Virginia since the Cavaliers are not playing their best basketball right now. So I see N.C. State advancing on Thursday but I hope to be pleasantly surprised.
For the other Thursday games I like Maryland, Clemson and Miami. I like all the teams wearing white which might actually come true this year since the league is really in 3 tiers. Duke and UNC make up the top tier and Boston College, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, and Georgia Tech make up the bottom tier. Everyone else falls in the middle.
On Friday I see Duke and Carolina advancing easily and N.C. State and Miami both pulling the upsets. Saturday Duke and North Carolina will advance and then I think Duke will get the better of UNC as they have been so dominant in the ACC Tournament the last decade.
Brian: I agree I don't like BC's chances in this one even though it is difficult to beat the same team three times in the same season. In the other games, I like Maryland, Miami and Virginia Tech. The Hokies and Tigers have played each other about as close as one could -- a 2 point Hokies win at home and a 2 point Tigers win at home. Basically, that game is more or less a toss up in my mind.
In the Quarterfinals, I like North Carolina and Duke to roll, N.C. State to upset Virginia and Miami to upset Florida State. Another Carolina-Duke final, with Carolina coming out on top. Again. Boring.
