The Boston College Eagles hockey team will be making its 19th appearance in the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals Round. The tournament was first expanded to more than four teams for the 1977 Frozen Four. But it wasn't until the mid 1980s before BC first played in an NCAA Quarterfinals series.

From 1981-1987, the NCAA Quarterfinals were a two-game series with the team with the higher goal total advancing to the Frozen Four. BC didn't like that format too much, posting just a 2-4 record and getting outscored 27-21 in three NCAA Tournament appearances.

Starting in the 1989 NCAA Tournament, the format was changed to be a three-game quarterfinals series with the first two rounds played at the higher seed's home ice. BC had slightly more success with this tournament format, compiling a 3-5 record overall but just one quarterfinals series win.

Finally, starting in 1992, the NCAA moved to a single-game Quarterfinals series. This is where BC has thrived under Coach York. The Eagles are 9-2 overall in single-elimination NCAA Quarterfinals.
