National Signing Day, Boston College Recruiting: LB Steven Daniels

Part of BC Interruption's National Signing Day Coverage.

Steven Daniels
Hometown:
Cincinnati, Ohio
High School: St. Xavier
Position: Inside Linebacker
Height: 6-0
Weight: 225 lbs

Rankings: Rivals 4* (position 17, state 16), Scout 3* (position 56), ESPN 3* (rated a 78, position 21, regional 64, state 29), 247 Sports 4* (rated a 91, national 238, position 9, state 12). Committed to BC back on December 15, 2010, spent a year at Worcester Academy to work on academics. Selected Boston College over Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Minnesota, N.C. State, Pittsburgh, Texas A&M and West Virginia. Recruited by Ben Sirmans.

Strengths: Via ESPN: "Daniels is an aggressive run stopper both vs. the inside run and off the edge. Possesses the size and athleticism for the inside linebacker position at the major level of competition. This is a flexible athlete displaying the balance and agility necessary to work through traffic." Via the Herald: "a fearsome interior run stopper with sufficient lateral movement to seal the edge."

Area of Concern: Daniels was originally part of the 2011 recruiting class, but spent the year at Worcester Academy trying to improve his test scores to satisfy eligibility requirements.

Realistic Outlook: Via AJB: "Grant's announcement is also a huge addition to a wide receiving corp that hasn't been stocked well from recruiting the last two recruiting seasons. Next season BC will have Ifeanyi Momah, Bobby Swigert, Alex Amidon, Colin Larmond Jr., Spiffy Evans and possibly Clyde Lee. That is not much depth for a spread gameplan that includes many five receiver sets. Obviously Martin will be adapting the playbook to work with the strengths and personnel that BC has, but getting a solid receiver like Grant is a great get, especially if BC is serious about employing a pass heavy offense."

Welcome to the Heights, Steven!
