Boston College Baseball Earns 5-3 Win Over No. 17 Virginia In Season Opener

The Boston College baseball team upset the 17th ranked Virginia Cavaliers, 5-3, on opening day at the Caravelle Resort Tournament in Conway, South Carolina. The Eagles (1-0) got 6.0 innings from sophomore right-hander Eric Stevens, who allowed 3 earned runs on 7 hits, one walk and one strike out.

Junior righty Hunter Gordon earned the save, allowing no hits and striking out one batter.

Sophomore Tom Bourdon led the team, going 3-for-5 on the day, nailing a double. Senior Anthony Melchionda went 2-for-4, also hitting a double and recording an RBI. The Eagles outhit the Cavaliers, 9-8.

The Eagles will next face James Madison tomorrow at 10 a.m. Due to the threat of inclement weather, the start time for the JMU game has been moved up an hour. Instead of playing Coastal Carolina on Sunday, BC will face the host Chanticleers tomorrow at approximately 6 p.m. in a rare Caravelle Resort Tournament day-night doubleheader.
