Fresh off a 27-10 victory over his former program, North Carolina State coach Tom O'Brien has been "released" of his duties, athletics director Debbie Yow confirmed to WRAL Sunday. TOB will not coach in the Wolfpack's bowl game and offensive coordinator Dana Bible has been named interim head coach. O'Brien finishes the year at 7-5 (4-4 ACC). Through six seasons in Raleigh, he compiled a record of 40-35 and a 22-26 mark in conference play.
To recap:
Tom O'Brien defeats Boston College yesterday.
Tom O'Brien gets fired from N.C. State on Sunday.
Frank Spaziani is still employed as of this writing.
Commence panic mode. EVERYBODY FREAK OUT!
This will likely spark a string of TOB "Back to BC" rumors, but that ship sailed long ago. For O'Brien, you really can't go home again. While I don't think N.C. State will be competing with Boston College for the program's next head coach, Brad Bates might want to get on that.
Apparently 8-9 wins isn't the best you can do at Boston College; it's the best Tom O'Brien can do anywhere. / pours one out for #NotoriousTOB
