Alex Amidon Left Off 2012 Biletnikoff Award Semifinalist List

The Boston College junior ranks fourth nationally with 115.7 yards per game.

On Monday, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, Inc. announces the ten Semifinalists for the 2012 Biletnikoff Award. They are:

-- Tavon Austin, West Virginia
-- Stedman Bailey, West Virginia
-- Brandin Cooks, Oregon State
-- Austin Franklin, New Mexico State
-- Cobi Hamilton, Arkansas
-- Austin Hill, Arizona
-- DeAndre Hopkins, Clemson
-- Marqise Lee, Southern California
-- Quinton Patton, Louisiana Tech
-- Terrance Williams, Baylor

Absent from the semifinalist list was Boston College junior wide receiver Alex Amidon, who was added to the Biletnikoff watch list back in September. This past weekend, Rettig's favorite 2012 target broke the school's single season receiving record with two games to play. In total, Amidon has caught 73 balls for 1,157 yards, ranking fourth in the nation in receiving yards per-game with 115.7 yards a game.

In fact, the 10 Biletnikoff semifinalists take up 10 of the top 11 spots in receiving yards per-game with Amidon the only exclusion. That's unfortunate, but admittedly I'm having a hard time getting worked up about the omission. Amidon has had a great season, but when you play on a 2-8 team and/or weren't on the initial preseason watch list as was New Mexico State's Austin Franklin, you probably aren't going to come away winning any individual hardware (making Kuechly's Lott IMPACT, Butkus Award, Rotary Lombardi and Bronko Nagurski individual performance all the more impressive).

Besides, USC's Marqise Lee will probably win the award this year anyway.
