Filling in for A.J this week ...
Two college football programs limp into West Point tomorrow in desperate need of a win. Boston College comes into the Army game searching for its first win over a Division I-A opponent while Army comes in looking for its first win ... this season. Both teams are coming off losses -- BC a "respectable" 14 point home loss to a ranked Clemson squad and Army a 20-3 home loss against I-AA Stony Brook.
Big Questions
Can the Boston College offense finally establish a ground attack? Can the Boston College defense stop an opposing team's ground attack? Will Boston College finally cover a spread this season? Will Doug Martin call for an early knock out punch, unleashing Rettig, Amidon and Swigert, or will the offense try to establish the run early to make up for last week's debacle in the run game? Will Boston College's offensive line step up and answer the challenge thrown down by O-Line U alumni?
Lingering Questions
How many Boston College fans will show up at Michie Stadium this weekend? Michie remains one of college football's most storied venues and is within short driving distance of the two largest alumni hubs -- New York and Boston. Will BC fans descend on West Point en masse, desperately seeking some more lax tailgating restrictions and good times? Or has a big part of the Wall Street crowd already tuned out this season and awaits word of a new Athletic Director and new head football coach? The amount of BC fans that show up tomorrow will be a good bellwether as to how well BC will draw at Yankee Stadium in 2014 and just how much work the next A.D. has in front of him/her.
What To Drink If Boston College Does The Unthinkable
Brooklyn Pennant Ale '55. It's October. That can only mean one thing. Playoff baseball. Sure your favorite team might have finished the season 26 games out of first place. Similarly, barring a Clemsoning AND a Florida State meltdown of epic proportions AND an enormous Boston College rebound, your favorite college football team is also out of the running for the league pennant. Still no excuse for not enjoying this amber classic from down river at the Brooklyn Brewery in Greenpoint.

Gametime Song of the Week
Lots of Patriotic songs to choose from this weekend. Maybe a little Neil Diamond America? Bruce Springsteen's Born In The U.S.A.? Neil Young's Rockin' In The Free World? John Mellencamp's Our Country? All appropriate selections to honor the sacrifices of the U.S. Armed Forces and the cadets at the U.S. Military Academy.
No. That would play right into Army's favor. The most-un-American song I could think of is an import which you knew was coming. I want to see Boston College score so many points that Spaz breaks from his stoic sideline demeanor just for a second and throws down, Gangnam style. Respectfully, of course.
I will seriously lose my s--t.
