Boston College Daily Links: Brad Bates, Football Hitting Bottom And BC-UMass Hoops

More reactions on the hire of Boston College Athletic Director Brad Bates

Bates Introduced As New Athletic Director (The Heights)
"All those things are great. They’re all grounded in maximizing student development. The true measure for us, in a lot of ways, is how your students—what the quality of the experience they’re having at the institution. We were able to significantly elevate our graduation rates there in our time."

Welcome to BC. Now get to work (Eagle in Atlanta)
I am not worried about what he did or didn't do at Miami. My concern is what he plans to accomplish at BC. Much of Bates' agenda will be determined by pressing needs and BC's overriding plans for the University, but with that in mind, I offer my advice to Mr. Bates.

Boston College hires former Miami Athletic Director Brad Bates (The Miami Student)
"My time with him has been tremendous," Treadwell said. "[He] will be successful, in my opinion, wherever he goes. I do appreciate what he has done for Miami number one, and certainly the opportunity he has given me and the staff here."

Lowlights: Another year, another reality check for Georgia, and more of the worst of Week 6 (CBSSports.com)
Knights of the chopping block. Long-suffering Boston College fans didn't think there was any pride left to wound after three long, mostly fruitless seasons under coach Frank Spaziani, but the 2012 Eagles managed to redefine "rock bottom" Saturday in a humiliating 34-31 loss at Army. Coming into the weekend, the Black Knights were 0-4 and had just been mocked in this space for failing to score a touchdown in a 23-3 collapse against Stony Brook. (Stony Brook!) Against Boston College, the academy found its footing and then some, racking up a staggering 516 yards rushing en route to the upset.

Prospect Hill. One of many high points in Boston where once could observe Frank Spaziani being fired sometime in the near future at Boston College. BC lost to Army this weekend, which while patriotic is not what you ever want to do in order to keep your job coaching football. Remember when BC fired Jeff Jagodzinski for interviewing for other jobs after winning 20 games in two years, and then gave the job to a lifelong assistant who appeared in need of a nap all the time? That was delightful.

Boston College basketball coach Steve Donahue says playing UMass didn't seem like a priority (masslive.com)
"It didn’t seem like it was a priority for anybody upstairs," Donahue said. "I get more people wanting us to play Harvard to be quite honest with you."

Luthy Named ACC Player of the Week (TheACC.com)
Luthy led the Eagles to a 1-0-1 week, which included a conference win at No. 15/17 Wake Forest, 1-0. The senior from Dublin, Ohio, stopped a season-high eight shots, all in the second half, while the Demon Deacons were pressuring to score the equalizer. His eight saves were also the most he has registered since 2009, and tied the second most recorded by an ACC student-athlete in a match this season.
