Another day, and even more drama for Boston College. According to HD, Boston College safety Okechukwu Okoroha has been dismissed from the team:
"Boston College safety Okechukwu Okoroha has been dismissed from the team for disciplinary reasons, the school announced today. Okoroha played in all 13 games last season and started six in place of the injured Wes Davis. He made 27 tackles (17 solo) on the year."
Okoroha was projected to start but was held out of yesterday's scrimmage. This is a big blow for BC, but again, they have the depth to cover this. Jim Noel is now in line to start and Frank Spaziani was all full of praise for the safety after yesterday's scrimmage.
"I like Jimmy. Jimmy’s a football player and works hard. He’s what we want on the team. We need more Jimmy Noels," said Spaziani. "Where he can help us best doesn’t matter to Jimmy and it certainly doesn’t matter to the coaching staff, so wherever we feel he can make us the best is where we’ll settle in."
Spaz must have known this was coming yesterday, otherwise why would he have praised Noel so openly? Okoroha was held out of the scrimmage yesterday, but had played this fall so this must have been in the works for at least the last couple of days. Any time BC loses a starter like this, especially on a secondary that was questionable to begin with, you have to be concerned.
Hat tip to Eric Hoffses as well for breaking the story.
