Watch list week continues with today's release of the 2011 John Mackey Award preseason watch list, as announced by the Nassau County Sports Commission. The Mackey Award is given annually to the college tight end that "best exemplifies the play, sportsmanship, academics, and community values of NFL Hall of Fame tight end John Mackey." Boston College's Chris Pantale has been named to this year's watch list.
Pantale caught 31 balls for 338 yards and a touchdown in his sophomore season. Through two seasons, Pantale has 56 receptions, 561 yards and 2 touchdowns, which is pretty impressive when you think about what BC's offense has looked like the past two seasons.
Pantale joins Virginia junior Colter Phillips, Duke senior Cooper Helfet, N.C. State senior George Bryan and Clemson junior Dwayne Allen as the ACC representatives on this year's preseason Mackey Award preseason watch list. The award has been presented annually since 2000, with just two ACC representatives winning the award -- Miami's Kellen Winslow II (2003) and Virginia's Heath Miller (2004).
