Boston College To Compete In 2011 USA Sevens Collegiate Rugby Championship

The Boston College rugby sevens team will compete in the second-ever USA Sevens Collegiate Rugby Championship. The event will take at PPL Park in Chester, Pa. on Saturday and Sunday, June 4-5, and will be broadcast live on NBC (with some live and taped delayed coverage on Versus throughout the weekend).

The BC squad joins 15 other college programs in this year's Championship field, including Utah (2010 champ), Cal (2010 runner-up), Army, Navy, Notre Dame, Penn State, Temple, Arizona, Dartmouth, Ohio State, North Carolina and LSU.

This year's Championship organizers must have known what they were doing, as they scheduled BC to face Notre Dame in the Eagles' first pool-play matchup (Saturday at 10:42am). The Eagles and Irish are joined by Dartmouth and defending champ Utah in Pool B. BC's two other matches on Saturday include a game against Utah (2:32) and Dartmouth (6:34). The evening concludes with a rugby-style block party and concert by, who else ... the Dropkick Murphys at 8 PM.

A full day of college rugby, the Holy War on the pitch, an international beer garden, food trucks and a performance by the Dropkick Murphys ... all for just $25? Now this is an event I can get behind.
