Congrats to former BC soccer star Charlie Davies, who netted two goals in his debut with D.C. United last night. United earned a 3-1 victory over the Crew. It was Davies' first competitive match since suffering multiple injuries in an October 2009 car accident in Northern Virginia.
There was nothing really too flashy about either of Davies' two goals -- one was a penalty kick (Davies is now United's designated penalty kick taker) and on the other, the Crew's defender fell down -- but it was great to hear that Davies took the field. Pretty remarkable that a guy that was involved in a life-threatening car accident is back on the pitch just 18 months later ... and contributing in the MLS. It's truly another great comeback story from a BC Guy.
Davies was of course thrilled with his performance last night, telling Crew blogger Shawn Mitchell "The best night of my career? No. The best night of my life."
Davies makes his return to New England on Saturday, March 26, as D.C. United travels to Gillette Stadium to take on the New England Revolution. The game starts at 4:30 PM and will be shown on CSN.
