Boston College 5, Merrimack 3: Hockey Wins Hockey East Tournament Title

Congrats to the Boston College men's hockey team, a 5-3 winner over Merrimack in last night's Hockey East Tournament Championship Game. Cam Atkinson scored twice including the game winner to lift BC to its 10th HEA Title and fourth in the last five years.

BC also got goals from Pat Mullane (8th of the season), Brian Gibbons (18th) and a power-play goal by Brian Dumoulin (3rd). Dumoulin's power-play goal was the Eagles' only special teams goal of the night, but sealed the game with just 1:36 to play.

John Muse made 36 saves for his 27th win of the season.

The senior class of John Muse, Brian Gibbons and Joe Whitney finishes 14-1 in Hockey East Tournament play, winning 3 of 4 Hockey East Tournament titles. The Eagles are also riding an eighth game winning streak at the Garden. Too bad the NCAA Regionals won't be held there.

Boston College earns the 2011 Hockey East automatic bid to this year's NCAA Tournament and will learn its postseason fate at 11:30 AM on ESPN2. BC, Merrimack and New Hampshire will represent Hockey East in this year's NCAAs, and BC is all but assured a no. 1 seed, though it looks like the Eagles will be headed west to either Green Bay or St. Louis.

Go Eagles!
