While we were busy sweating the NCAA Tournament over the weekend, the Boston College men's hockey took care of business against UMass in the Hockey East Quarterfinals. The Eagles won 4-1 on Friday night and 4-2 Saturday night to advance the Hockey East semifinals for the seventh consecutive year.
BC got four goals from Jimmy Hayes over the weekend, including a hat trick in Saturday's night win. York also got goals from Barry Almeida (7th of the season), Cam Atkinson (28th), Brian Gibbons (16th), and Joe Whitney (5th).
John Muse stopped 44 shots over the weekend to notch wins 24 and 25 on the year.

The Eagles advance to the Hockey East semifinals to face the 6th seeded Northeastern Huskies, who won their Quarterfinals series against Boston University 4-2, 2-5 and 5-4. The other semifinal will pit the 2-seed New Hampshire Wildcats against the #4 Merrimack Warriors. Merrimack is making its first trip to the Garden since 1998.
BC and Northeastern tied the regular season Hockey East series 1-1-1, with the Eagles besting the Huskies in the Beanpot Championship, 7-6 in OT. Merrimack won the regular season series against UNH 2-1-0.
BC's game against Northeastern will start at 5 PM on Friday at the Garden, and will be televised on NESN. New Hampshire will face Merrimack at 8 PM, also on NESN.
The Hockey East Championship will be played on Saturday, March 19 and will start at 7 PM. The game will be televised by NESNplus (DTV 629).
