Fresh off the disappointment of missing the NCAA Tournament, the Eagles learned that they will travel to Lake Charles, Louisiana to take on McNeese State in the First Round of the NIT. The game will be played on Tuesday night at 9 PM ET, and will be televised on ESPNU.
McNeese State went 21-11 this year and 11-5 in the Southland Conference. The Cowboys lost to Texas-San Antonio in the Southland Conference Championship. BC and McNeese State played two common opponents this year in Miami (Fla.) and Texas A&M. BC lost both games against Miami while McNeese State lost by 20, 79-59. BC beat Texas A&M while the Cowboys lost 66-57.
Here is how BC's NIT bracket shapes up:
(1) Boston College at (8) McNeese State, Tuesday 9 ET (ESPNU)
(5) Milwaukee at (4) Northwestern, Wednesday 8 ET (ESPN3.com)
(6) Harvard at (3) Oklahoma State, Tuesday 7:30 ET (ESPN)
(7) Long Beach State at (2) Washington State, Wednesday 10 ET (ESPNU)
Of course, I'm pumped about the possible BC-Northwestern second round game. And this bracket also sets up the possibility of a BC-Harvard rematch in the NIT Quarterfinals for the right to head to the Garden.
From the ACC, Virginia Tech is a 1 seed and will host Bethune-Cookman. Miami is a 2 seed and will face Florida Atlantic. Maryland? Snubbed.
As I mentioned earlier, this will be BC's 11th appearance all-time in the NIT. Since the early rounds of the NIT were moved back to campus, BC is 5-3 in true road games with wins over Saint Joseph's (1984) , Evansville (1988), Middle Tennessee (1988), Niagara (1993) and Fairfield (2003). Losses to Virginia, Notre Dame and Temple.
