We try to be selective with the PSAs on this blog, but felt this was a pretty worthy cause ... Read on.
WZBC Sports, the student-run radio station at BC, needs your help. The radio station is looking to expand its coverage for next season but needs to raise funds to do so. I know a few prominent BC bloggers and long-time readers of this blog got their starts covering the Eagles through either WZBC or The Heights, so consider helping to give a new group of students an opportunity to cover BC sports.
Please take a minute to read the below message from WZBC's Promotional Director and if you can afford to help out, consider contacting the station directly.
Go Eagles!
"If you' re reading this blog, let' s be honest, you probably have at least some interest in BC sports, right? Well, a group of students at Boston College wants to bring you Eagles' fans more sports and more coverage. WZBC Sports consists of over 40 students who cover live sports action from The Heights and they also host weekly talk shows. WZBC sports is an offshoot of 90.3 WZBC Newton FM and in addition to broadcasting throughout the Boston area, we also stream online around the world.
This year, we covered every football game including the bowl game. We also cover men's and women's basketball and hockey. This spring, we'll bring fans every home baseball game as they look to make new head coach Mike Gambino's inaugural season a successful one. We' ve also added a Twitter (@WZBCsports) and began podcasting our shows.
Quite frankly, we' re blowing up right now. We expanded from ten students in the fall of last year to the over 40 we have right now, and we're hoping to extend our coverage in a big way. We have lofty expectations for the next academic year but as all of you adults know, everything costs money. We' d love to get some new broadcasting equipment so we can start covering more sports such as soccer and softball. When we travel to football games, we miss out on the opportunity to broadcast other weekend games, and having more equipment would allow us to begin doing that. We're also revamping our website which you can check out at http://bc.edu/zbcsports. Our long-term goals include traveling with the hockey team to Hockey East games (and hopefully deep into the NCAA tournament).
Unfortunately, we at WZBC Sports don't have much money and we're humbly requesting that members of Eagle Nation help us out. We accept private donations and if anyone out there has interest in becoming a sponsor, we'd be happy to get in touch with you and discuss that further. WZBC is a non-commercial station so we can't air calls to action but we can make it work by thanking you for your support on-air, on our website, our Twitter account, etc. Any donations you make towards WZBC Sports are tax-deductible and will be truly appreciated. We promise to put your donation dollars hard at work bringing you the best possible coverage of BC sports - for BC fans by BC fans.
WZBC Sports offers students interested in broadcasting the chance to get behind the microphone and feel comfortable and build up some tape. We hope you've checked out a WZBC broadcast and if you haven't, check out our podcasts and follow us on Twitter. If you want to help out in any way or have questions, email our promo guy at adam.rose.1 at bc dot edu. Thank you!
Go Eagles!"
