Portland Trail Blazers Sign Craig Smith

The Portland Trail Blazers have agreed to terms with former Boston College star Craig Smith. The Rhino is headed to The City of Roses.

"Craig is a guy who will bring us some interior scoring and toughness around the hole," said Trail Blazers Acting General Manager Chad Buchanan. "He is a player who is hungry to experience the playoffs and we hope that Craig can help us get back to the postseason again this year."

Smith has spent three years in Minnesota and the last two in Los Angeles with the Clippers. He averaged 5.4 points and 2.4 rebounds in 12.2 minutes per game last season in L.A., all career lows. In five NBA seasons, Smith has averaged 8.2 points and 4.1 rebounds in 17.9 minutes per game.

At Boston College, Smith finished with 2,349 points, placing him second on the school's all-time scoring list behind only Troy Bell. He averaged 17.6 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.8 blocked shots in his senior season, leading the Eagles to a 28-8 record (11-5 ACC), an ACC Tournament finals and NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance.
