Arizona DT Jaxon Hood Reportedly Commits To Boston College

With BC not bowl eligible, the entire coaching staff is seemingly busy on the recruiting trail. Yesterday, Scout.com and SB Nation Recruiting reported that Arizona DT Jaxon Hood has verbally committed to Boston College. The 6'1 280 lbs lineman would be the only player on the BC roster from Arizona.

He doesn't fit the usual profile of BC recruits, although he is not ranked very high (2 star on ESPN and Rivals), he had offers from multiple schools on the west coast including Washington State, Air Force, North Arizona and South Dakota State. Not the usual suspects BC battles for recruits.

ESPN's scouting report makes it sound like Hood will be a project if he wants to play in the ACC:

Hood is a compact and stout defensive tackle. He possesses marginal height, but does look to carry more bulk than is listed and needs to watch how he adds size as his frame does not look to be able to ideally handle much more.

Has Frank Spaziani adopted the Steve Donahue/Al Skinner philosophy of trying to find west coast recruits who want to play in the ACC? Since BC has recently struggled to snag recruits in their own backyard, this might not be a bad approach. But again Hood didn't have many FBS offers, so it wasn't like BC was going head to head with some of the west coast power houses like USC and Oregon.

Welcome to the Heights Jaxon. Go EAGLES!
