QUICK HITS: Notre Dame 16, Boston College 14 (
The experts had the Eagles pegged as a 20+ point underdog, so in some ways Boston College fans have to be happy with the team's refusal to quit. But it was also the fourth one-score on the season, something that speaks to the Eagles' struggle to create the big play offensively. The defense has been strong, particularly in the second half of the season, but once again the inability to produce points keeps Boston College from being able to turn that play into victories.

Primarily, this was because the Eagles' 112th-ranked offense begged to be suffocated and the Notre Dame defense obliged. The Irish allowed just 250 yards overall and just one score in the first 58 minutes, holding Boston College without a first down on two critical third-quarter possessions that began in Notre Dame territory.

"Both those guys were going to be all over the field tonight," said Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly, who recruited Kuechly when he was at Cincinnati. "I knew Kuechly would be. He went sideline to sideline and Manti played great. It was good stuff."

Well, that was... tense.  Raise your hand if you thought BC was going to win that game on a field goal.  I honestly didn't.  Maybe I'm crazy or maybe I just know that we have a competent coach at the helm, but I have faith in these guys.  I had no feelings of impending doom when BC scored their second touchdown.  I was nervous, don't get me wrong, but I had faith in the boys.
