Boston College Football's History Vs. Ranked Opponents

Boston College is currently riding a seven game losing streak against ranked opponents. Notre Dame comes into this game ranked 24th in this week's AP poll. You can imagine how this one is going to turn out.

Here are the results from BC's last ten games against ranked opponents:

L 7-38 #23 Florida State, 2011
L 14-30 #9 Virginia Tech, 2011
L 14-36 #7 Clemson, 2011
L 13-20 #15 Nevada, 2011
L 19-24 #16 Florida State, 2010
L 13-31 #25 North Carolina, 2009
L 14-48 #5 Virginia Tech, 2009

W 27-17 #20 Florida State, 2008
W 28-23 #17 Virginia Tech, 2008
L 16-30 #6 Virginia Tech, 2007

The Eagles' seven game losing streak against opponents ranked in the AP poll is already tied for the school's third longest streak. BC famously lost 20 straight games against ranked opponents from 1995-2001, before knocking off 19th ranked Georgia in the 2001 Music City Bowl. With a loss to Notre Dame tomorrow, BC's current streak would stand alone as the third worst in program history.

Here's a rundown of Boston College's longest losing streaks against opponents ranked in the AP Top 25.

20: 1995-2001 -- Virginia Tech x6, Miami x4, Notre Dame x4, Syracuse x4, Michigan, Michigan State

15: 1987-1991 -- Syracuse x3, Pittsburgh x2, West Virginia x2, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, USC

7: 1968-1975 -- Air Force x2, Penn State x2, Miami, Notre Dame, Texas
7: 2009-present -- Florida State x2, Virginia Tech x2, Clemson, Nevada, North Carolina

5: 1952-1959 -- Army, Navy, Miami, LSU, Villanova

4: 1977-1980 -- Pittsburgh x3, Texas A&M
4: 1980-1981 -- Florida State, North Carolina, Penn State, Pittsburgh

I suppose if there's a silver lining to tomorrow's game, it's that in 10 all-time meetings against the Irish when Notre Dame came into the contest ranked in the AP Top 25, BC has won three of those games. So you're saying there's a chance?
