Boston College Opens As A 24.5 Point Underdog At Notre Dame

I thought that given Boston College's win this Saturday over N.C. State that Vegas would rein in the opening line on this weekend's Boston College-Notre Dame game just a little bit ... guess not. The Wynn Las Vegas has set the early line on this weekend's Holy War matchup and it's not pretty, as the Irish are favored by 24.5 points.

This is the most lopsided point spread of the season for the Eagles. Earlier this year, BC opened as a 21-point dog for its road games at Clemson and at Virginia Tech.

As one would expect with a perennially overrated opponent like the Irish, the series has been extremely even ATS. Here are the lines from the last 10 Eagles-Irish meetings.

2010: Notre Dame 31, Boston College 13 (ND -3)
2009: Notre Dame 20, Boston College 16 (BC +7.5)
2008: Boston College 17, Notre Dame 0 (BC -3.5)
2007: Boston College 27, Notre Dame 14 (ND +13.5)
2004: Boston College 24, Notre Dame 23 (BC +7)
2003: Boston College 27, Notre Dame 25 (ND +3.5)
2002: Boston College 14, Notre Dame 7 (BC +9.5)
2001: Boston College 21, Notre Dame 17 (ND +4.5)
2000: Notre Dame 28, Boston College 16 (ND -9)
1999: Boston College 31, Notre Dame 29 (BC +8.5)

BC and Notre Dame are both 5-5 ATS over the last ten meetings, with the Irish covering last year's three point spread with a convincing 31-13 win on the Heights. The Irish are also 5-5 ATS this season and are coming off a 45-21 drubbing of the Maryland Terrapins at FedEx Field.

So do the Eagles keep this one close? Or is this going to be a Holy War beatdown the likes of which we haven't seen since 1992?

Other week 12 lines of note: the Atlantic Division champ Clemson Tigers are 10 point favorites on the road in Raleigh, Florida State is an 18 point favorite at home against Virginia, Wake Forest is a 12 point favorite as they host the reeling Terps, the Hokies are 11-point favorites over the Tar Heels and the Jackets are favored by 9.5 at Duke. In non-conference action, Miami is a 1.5 favorite at USF.
