How Many Different College Football Stadiums Have You Attended?

One way to beat the summer dead period is to encourage a little reader participation. I wanted to get a sense of who our well-traveled college football fans are among our readers. Answer the question "how many different college football stadiums have you attended?" in the comments section and hopefully we'll get a little (friendly) competition going to spice up your Thursday.

When answering the question, here are the rules:

  • We're talking college football ONLY, people. You must have gone to the stadium to watch an actual college football game. Watching the women’s lacrosse team or a high school team play in a stadium doesn’t count.
  • No neutral sites. NFL Stadiums or MLB Ballparks for games like the ACC Championship or the Emerald Bowl don't count. Having attended several of these type of games - two ACC Championship Games, two bowl games and the Patriot Bowl - I know this rule sucks. Deal.
  • No double-counting. Has to be the currently used home of that college football team. If we were talking baseball, you couldn’t count both the Metrodome and Target Field for the Twins.
  • No rooting interest required. The game didn't have to involve Boston College or the team you root for.

I’ll go first. By my count, I've attended 12 different college football stadiums. My list includes Alumni Stadium (Boston College), Carrier Dome (Syracuse), Beaver Stadium (Penn State), Lincoln Financial Field (Temple), Jordan-Hare Stadium (Auburn), Memorial Stadium (Clemson), Notre Dame Stadium (Notre Dame), Lane Stadium (Virginia Tech), Kenan Memorial Stadium (North Carolina), Carter-Finley Stadium (N.C. State), Byrd Stadium (Maryland) and Ryan Field (Northwestern). I’m halfway to my goal of attending every stadium in the ACC.

The largest crowd for a football game I’ve attended was the 106,445 Nittany Lion faithful that watched BC jump out to a 21-0 first quarter lead en route to a 27-14 Eagles victory back on September 6, 2003. The smallest crowd for a game I’ve attended must have been the 17,857 that showed up for the Northwestern season opener against I-AA Towson.

Jeff, how many different college football stadiums do you claim?

Jeff: I’ve attended 8 different college football stadiums. My list includes Alumni Stadium (Boston College), Carrier Dome (Syracuse), Beaver Stadium (Penn State), Memorial Stadium (Clemson), Notre Dame Stadium (Notre Dame), Lane Stadium (Virginia Tech), Kenan Memorial Stadium (North Carolina), and Carter-Finley Stadium (N.C. State). It wasn't too long ago that I was even with you in terms of total number of stadiums but you really turned it on over the last few years when you attended games at Maryland, Auburn and Northwestern for the first time.

How many different college football stadiums have you attended? More than 8? 12?
Best experience? Worst?
