2/12/2010 - UMass-Lowell 4, Boston College 1 - 16-9-2 (11-7-2 Hockey East)
So much for that four point weekend prediction from yesterday ...
The River Hawk's forward Patrick Cey scored the game-winning goal on the power play 16:10 into the second period, and Lowell added two empty-net goals en route to a 4-1 win over Boston College. Joe Whitney provided the only goal for the Eagles early in the second period (assisted by Steven Whitney and Cam Atkinson). BC forward Brian Gibbons's point streak was snapped at 11 games.
The Eagles are now 0-4-1 in their last five games against the River Hawks.
BC's loss coupled with a 5-2 New Hampshire win over Providence extends the Wildcats lead in Hockey East to 5 points. BC has a game in hand and will look to narrow the Wildcats lead back down to 3 points tonight as they conclude the regular season series against UMass-Lowell at Conte Forum tonight. The game starts at 5 PM.
In other Hockey East action, BU continues their strong second half of the season, climbing up the Hockey East standings. The Terriers defeated the Black Bears 7-4 at Agganis Arena. BU remains tied for 5th place in Hockey East with Lowell (20 points), just four points behind BC and nine behind first-place UNH.
