A Boston College Viewing Guide to the Winter Olympics

The 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics are right around the corner, beginning tomorrow and lasting through February 28. Two current students and two former Eagles will be competing in this year's Olympic games.

Here's a quick guide to our Boston College Olympians and when they will be competing in Vancouver. Be sure to cheer on your fellow Eagles.

 

Brooks Orpik (Bio)

Country: United States

Orpik, a native of East Amherst, NY, was a member of the Boston College team that won the 2001 NCAA Hockey Championship. He currently plays for the NHL’s Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins.

Previous Olympic Games: 2006

A former lacrosse player at Boston College, Tyler Jewell made his Olympic debut in Torino despite significant struggles to fund his career... At one point, he was living in his car and eating PowerBars three meals a day until he got a job selling sausages at a New Mexico state fair... His hometown (Sudbury, Mass.,) is also the hometown of 2006 Olympic snowboarder Michelle Gorgone.

Stack, who came to Boston College from Brooklyn Heights, Ohio, was one of college hockey’s top scorers last winter with 59 points in 35 games. She was named Hockey East Player of the Year and won Hockey East All-Star honors for the third consecutive season.

Making her Olympic debut in Vancouver... Served as the backup goaltender for the U.S. team at the 2008 and 2009 World Championships, winning gold at both... Has played three seasons at Boston College as the starting goalie, and is taking the year off to train for Vancouver... Started in goal at a young age, because it was the only way her brothers would let her play... Learned to skate on pond in the family's back yard when they lived in Minnesota.
