Boston College Hockey Splits Weekend Series With Merrimack

10/29/2010 - Boston College 3, Merrimack 2 -- 4-1-0 (2-0-0 Hockey East)
10/30/2010 - Merrimack 4, Boston College 2 -- 4-2-0 (2-1-0 Hockey East)

On Friday, the Eagles raised the banner on the program's fourth National Championship, and then rallied for a come-from-behind 3-2 win. Junior Cam Atkinson tied the game at 1 late in the second period on a 5-on-3 Eagles powerplay (assists Patrick Wey, Joe Whitney). Early in the third period, Paul Carey knotted the score at 2 with a goal assisted by Atkinson. Finally, with 13:51 left to play in the third period, Pat Mullane scored the game winner on the power play. MC goalie Joe Cannata misplayed a dump-in behind the line that Mullane easily tapped into an empty net.

Muse made 30 saves on the night and improved to 3-1-0 on the season. The Eagles outshot the Warriors 42-32, with 26 of those shots coming on the power play.

The win came at a cost, however, with defenseman Tommy Cross going down with another knee injury early in the second period. Initial reports were that Cross has a knee sprain, but is still expected to miss 3-6 weeks.

On Saturday night, the Eagles couldn't pull off the weekend sweep, losing to the Warriors 4-2 in front of a sellout, 2,772 Lawler Arena crowd. Brian Gibbons and Cam Atkinson scored for the Eagles, but it wasn't enough as MC got off to a 3-1 lead netting two power play goals.

Milner made 28 saves on the night, but was bested by Cannata, who stopped 31 shots (and 70 of 75 over the weekend) to improve to 2-1-2 on the season.
