2012 ACC Men's Basketball Tournament Moved From Georgia Dome to Philips Arena
The ACC announced today that the 2012 ACC men's basketball tournament will be moved from the Georgia Dome to Philips Arena, home to the NBA's Hawks and the NHL's Thrashers. The 2001 tournament at the Georgia Dome set a league attendance record with an average attendance of 36,505 per session. This past year, attendance at the Georgia Dome was down to 26,352 per session. The move to the smaller, 20,000 seat Philips Arena was made to "protect the tournament's brand and atmosphere," according to John Swofford.
