Headlines: Who Let the Dogs Out?

2/2/2009 - Northeastern 6, Boston College 1 - BC 11-9-4 (7-7-4 Hockey East)

Brian: Tough loss for the Eagles in the first round of the 57th Beanpot. Penalties and missed opportunities on the power play continue to plague this team. Northeastern was 2 of 4 on the man advantage while the Eagles went 0 for 7. In typical BC fashion, the Eagles outshot the Huskies 46-27.

The five goal deficit was the worst loss for the Eagles in the first round of the Beanpot since dropping the first round of the 1993 Beanpot to Boston University 8-2.

While some are looking for the turnaround from the Eagles a la last year's championship run, this definitely wasn't what we had in mind. This season seems to be shaping up much more like the post-championship season of 2001-2002 than last year's title run. More on that thought to follow.

Take nothing away from Northeastern who have been playing lights out this season. The championship game should be a good one, with the #3 ranked Huskies looking to upset the #1 Terriers.

The good news? Well, it didn't affect the Hockey East standings and the road gets a bit lighter for the next few weeks. The Eagles will have to capitalize if they have aspirations for making it back to Washington D.C.
