Quinn Thompson, a 6'5, 225-pound tight end/defensive end for the Lancers, issued a verbal declaration to Connecticut Thursday, according to the Erie Times-News.
During his recruiting process, Thompson held a total of eight scholarship offers, including the Huskies, but also from Boston College, Akron, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Massachusetts, Ohio and Temple, while generating interest from programs like Kent State, Northwestern, Penn State, Pitt, Toledo and West Virginia, among others.
The University of Massachusetts has fired football coach Kevin Morris and will conduct a "national search" for his replacement as the program transitions to the Football Bowl Subdivision next season.
Bonus Pick! Massachusetts (-10½) over Boston College. This says nothing whatsoever about UMass' 2-0 start against Holy Cross and Rhode Island. But as far as Boston College is concerned, when you follow up a three-point effort against a Conference USA outfit with a home loss to Duke, you have officially lost all benefit of the doubt.
Whoever loses the first match will slip down a game to their division-mates, and in the scrummy situations we encounter so often in our current conference system, that'll be the difference. So it’s cool, Boston College. Just get past Duke, UMass, and Wake Forest first, and then we’ll … oh. We see your point.
