D1scourse Bracketology for Jan. 23

In this week's D1scourse Bracketology, Patrick has Boston College clinging to an 11 seed, opposite the 6 seeded Tennessee Volunteers. Patrick sure knows how to pick intriguing NCAA Tournament opponents for the Eagles. Last week, it was BC opposite 6 seeded Wisconsin, a rematch of this season's Old Spice Classic matchup and a team that Donahue upset last year with Cornell. This week, it's BC going up against BC alum Bruce Pearl and the Volunteers. Next week? My guess is you'll see BC opposite either Georgetown or West Virginia, Big East grudge match style.

The conference allocates a specified amount for teams in a BCS bowl ($1.7 million for the Orange Bowl) for expenses, while teams heading to non-BCS games receive $1.1 million in expenses. The conference pools together the bowl payouts from its teams and deducts the expenses described above. The remaining money is then divvied up evenly into 12 slices for the league's schools.

Patrick Stevens over at D1scourse breaks down the ACC's bowl payouts so you don't have to. In short, don't worry about individual ACC bowl game payouts, since the conference pools the money and divides it out equally. Based on some Gobbler Country math, Boston College stands to gain ~$1.64 million in addition to the amount they get to offset bowl expenses.

10. Boston College (3-5, last month: 7). The Eagles avoid the cellar thanks to Saturday's defeat of Clemson, though quite a few Boston College fans might disagree. The first two months were always going to be tougher than November, though losing at home to Notre Dame and Maryland understandably was aggravating. A chance remains, however, to snag a bowl berth with three wins against an underwhelming slate in the final four games. ACC satisfaction rankings, end of October edition (D1scourse)
