Akeel Lynch was wearing a Penn State jacket before he even knew what a Nittany Lion was. Now Lynch (Athol Springs, N.Y./Saint Francis) is set to play for Penn State.

A former Boston College commitment, Lynch pledged to Penn State while official visiting over the weekend.

Head coach Frank Spaziani felt his seat in Chestnut Hill heat up after the Eagles' 4-8 record in 2011 resulted in the program's first bowl-less postseason since 1998. The first opportunity to win back support comes in recruiting, and Boston College is currently looking at one of the least impressive classes in the conference. Both in current number (14) and caliber of commitments.

Archbishop Wood offensive lineman Brandon Arcidiacono will announce his college choice today during a 3 p.m. event at the school.

The 6-5, 250-pound Arcidiacono, a first-team All-Catholic selection, has narrowed his choices to Boston College, Connecticut, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, South Carolina and Villanova. He has 15 Division I offers.

This is a group of leaders, as 15 of the 23 prospects were captains on their respective teams. It’s the second class under coach Frank Spaziani, and the staff got much closer to where it needs to be with depth and numbers in this class, particularly up front.

Keyes, a two-time Small School Offensive Player of the Year pick by the Times Union in 2009 and 2010, excelled at both running back and safety, and was recruited at both positions. Keyes, who rushed for 5,145 yards during his stellar varsity career, will play strong safety at the collegiate level and likely will redshirt in 2011.
