Boston College Daily Links: Ranking The Non-Conference Football Schedule
Senior Anthony Melchionda and sophomore Tom Bourdon of the Boston College baseball team were voted to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference second team on Monday, the league announced. These are the first such accolades for both Eagles (22-33, 10-20 ACC) and the first for BC since 2010 when Mickey Wiswall was selected to the first team.
While the Eagles recorded three runs in the first, the Bulldogs (11-11) kept BC off the board for the reminder of the game while scoring three of their own, until Payne's 10th-inning heroics. After a double play, senior Anthony Melchionda singled to right center and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Payne battled from 0-2 to a full count and then launched his third bomb over the left-field fence to give the Maroon and Gold the 5-3 win.
Melchionda, a senior from Braintree, Mass., hit .421 for the week and drove in seven runs while keying the Eagles to three wins, including their first two ACC victories of the season in a series win over 14th-ranked Georgia Tech. Three of Melchionda’s hits went for extra bases, including a home run in a 2-for-5, three-RBI performance in a 15-7 win over the Yellow Jackets on Friday. Melchionda, who earned his second ACC Player of Week honor this season, went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI on Saturday, sparking BC to a 4-3 win. The multi-hit games were Melchionda’s second and third of the week.
