Top 10 Things I Did While BC Interruption Was Down The Last Few Days

10. Perfected that rubber pencil thing.

9. Speculated on what BC is actually "interrupting".

8. Came up with three new reasons for despising Notre Dame fans who never went to Notre Dame.

7. Day dreamed about going to the Orange Bowl instead of the frozen chicken patty on a bun bowl.

6. Tried to figure out why NASCAR would want to advertise on a BC sports site in the first place.

5. I have a son! Who knew?

4. Porn, porn, and more porn.

3. Agreed to the terms of the restraining order from Matt Ryan.

2. Filed for personal bankruptcy after taking investment advice from guys on a sports chat board.

1. Completed a 6 foot fence around New England. Good luck getting to the Jersey Shore now bitches.

BC Basketball Facilities

Hi,

Can someone please confirm for me what Boston College's basketball practice facility situation is.

I've tried to contact the athletic program many times with no response.

Does it meet at least one of these descriptions:

1. A practice facility with at least two seperate courts.

2. A home arena whose basketball floor stays down for the majority of the year to go along with practice facility.

If anyone could give me a good description on this, that would be welcomed.

Mens Ice Hockey: Reflection on 2012-13, high expectations for 2013-14

It is safe to say that this past hockey season for BC wasn't like the magical 2011-12 season. Sure, the Eagles finished 6th in the country, but they were disappointed with an early exit to Union in Providence at the NCAA tournament. There could be lot of explanations for this, like head coach Jerry York's absence in the games leading up to the tournament, or maybe they just had bad luck. I think, that although the addition of Mike Matheson was very positive, the freshman class was not as good as the senior class that left last year, and did not have as good depth. The Eagles lost key defensive players like Tommy Cross and Brian Dumoulin, as well as big scorers like Paul Carey, Chris Kreider, and Barry Almeida.

Even though this past year had a disappointing ending, the Eagles of 2013-14 have much higher expectations than the 2012-13 Eagles. Even though we will be missing key players Pat Mullane, Steven Whitney, Patch Alber, and of course Parker Milner, the incoming class is looking very bright. First off, Parker Milner will be replaced by Thatcher Demko, who played for the USA U-18 team, putting up good games against UNH and Merrimack. Fans have compared Demko to current All-American goaltender Jon Gillies, a freshman from Providence. New additions next year include Adam Gilmore, (drafted in the 4th round by Minnesota) Chris Calnan, (3rd round draft pick by Chicago) Evan Richardson, who had 55 points in the BCHL last year. Also, 3 very key freshman next year will be Ryan Fitzgerald (a very highly touted prospect), Ian McCoshen, who was the #1 un-comitted prospect before BC signed him, and Matt Gaudreau, who is Johnny Gaudreau's brother. This incoming freshman class will add great depth, while replacing the departing senior class well.

Letter to Father Leahy About Irish PM. WOW!

I am simply stunned that your naive (at best) invitation to Toaoiseach Enda Kenny has been extended to a man who, in the very teeth of Church and pro-life-opposition here in Ireland, steadfastly and unabashedly advances an agenda destined to usher-in the liberalization of abortion in our nation, an agenda defended both by the liberal Irish news media and that ungodly Moloch, the European Union.

It is a slap in the face to both Catholic and Protestant pro-life groups in the Republic and gravely if not fatally, owing to the priceless publicity you will afford Mr. Kenny, undermines our efforts to hold back ‘the blood-dimmed tide loosed upon the world.’ (W. B. Yeats ‘The Second Coming’, circa 1919)

Would Pope Francis, also of the Society of Jesus, for one moment give this promoter of liberalized abortion a public platform? No!

I pray that you find some way to extricate Boston College from this brewing international scandal.

Your brother in Christ Jesus!

This is for all those who zinged 74 for 11 years about the radical left wing extremist slant and policies brought to BC by losers Leahy and McGillicuddy and turning BC into secular Harvard Light (74)!

ENJOY!

That game is part of the school's ''Shamrock Series'' in which Notre Dame, last season's BCS runner-up, plays home games in different parts of the country.

The Irish's game against Arizona State, a night game that will be part of NBC's package of Notre Dame games, will come a season before Cowboys Stadium is the site of the first title game under the new postseason system.

150 years and condom-gate

This isn't exactly sports-related but don't think that the PR fallout has no impact on the perception of an institution. In the lead up to BC's 150th birthday (which is apparently recognized on April 1, 2013), the administration has apparently decided now was the time to crack down on a group that has been providing sex education materials (including free condoms). Regardless of your own personal morals or spiritual experience, is this a battle that needs to be fought immediately (especially in 2013)?

My concern is that an administration that seems either out of touch with college students and their lifestyles or their naivete about how foolish taking such a stance looks will also not have the foresight to realize that investing in athletics infrastructure can actually create great national awareness of the instituition and the great things BC is about. The timing is embarassing.

This isn't exactly sports-related but don't think that the PR fallout has no impact on the perception of an institution.
2013 Combo Guard Darryl Hicks Commits to Boston College

Earlier today, the Boston College Men's Basketball team received a big commitment when guard Darryl Hicks of Shelbyville, Kentucky and Trinity High School chose the Eagles over offers from Florida State, Cincinnati, Western Kentucky and Florida International.

Hicks was described by recruiting services to be a very strong scorer. He's a solid shooter and has the quickness and athleticism to drive the ball to the rim. His defense is solid as well. Also, the fact that he can play both guard positions can really earn him time in Donahue's system, which is a guard-centered system that requires a lot of running and 3 point shots.

Hicks is one of those guys who really doesn't have a huge weakness, but of course he's not without his faults as a player. He seems to be a bit streaky as a shooter, and he's only an average rebounder.

What Hicks adds to this team is simple: depth. BC lost a lot of close games last year because they had their starters playing 35 minutes per game, and sometimes guys like Hanlan and Rahon had to play 40 minutes in a game. With Hicks added to the rotation, you now have a rotation of (assuming nobody leaves): Hanlan, Rahon, Hicks, Jackson, Heckmann, Dragicevich, and Owens at 3-4 guard spots; heck, you might be able to add Sam Donahue to that list if he's good enough.

Welcome to the Heights, Darryl!

DO SOMETHING MR. BATES ABOUT BASEBALL!!

Boston College baseball (3-17, 0-8 ACC) was out hit 27-8 by North Carolina in their latest two game outing. Even if we decide to stay in this sport a catastrophic season like this will have adverse recruiting ramifications for several years (as though it wasn't difficult enough already). It never should have been allowed to get this far. It should not, under any circumstances, be allowed to continue without some attempt by our AD to hold the paid adults accountable unless we have decided to get out of this sport next year.

Brad Bates - either (i) make this BC's swan song baseball season or, (ii) fire Gambino immediately, install Englert and get the new field back on track. As I have repeatedly said, BC is to baseball like Texas A&M would be to ice hockey. And if we exit - the sooner the better so as to give the underclassmen the most time possible to seek an appropriate transfer.

But Brad - I think I speak for most of us when I say that we are tired of PITIFUL performances not being promptly addressed at BC. Again - we are not talking mere bad here or mere disappointment or mere losses- we are talking PITIFUL. We need you to step up and say Boston College will no longer tolerate such nonsense. If you do nothing here and allow this thing to wither on the vine and tolerate further embarrassment to the athletics program and the university - you will be hurting your reputation. You really do need to act.

How Boston College Can Get Back To The Big Dance

[Ed. note -- Front page'd]

After two years, Steve Donahue now has his own players he recruited and will attempt to reach the 2014 NCAA Tournament when the season starts in November. This year for the Eagles had disappointing losses to teams like College of Charleston and Bryant, but also showed some bright spots in games like Virginia, Maryland, and Georgia Tech. There is no doubt that this team is much better than the previous year, but were not tournament caliber yet. In that regard, there is a long way to go.

BC's season came to an end after the loss vs Miami, a team BC nearly beat twice in a game we would not have been competitive in a season ago. The Eagles season in my estimate was a quality season for a young team. Although next year Donahue can't use the "We're still young" excuse any longer and will have to man up along with the rest of the team in order to be successful.

With the Tourney starting tonight, I get the sad realization that BC won't be participating for the 4th year in a row. I still remember that loss to USC in '09, but Its still a heck of a lot of fun watching 9 hours of basketball and then capping it off with your favorite team playing in the mecca of college basketball.

Expectations are high for next years team and they won't be fulfilled without some improvements in this team. The Eagles are certainly better than last years team, but lack a healthy big man, defense, student support, and much more holding them back from reaching their full potential. I'd like to give Coach Donahue and the rest of the Eagles my two cents on how to bring BC back to the NCAA Tournament.

Recruit a Center/Power Forward- I'd prefer the former rather than the latter but find the best you can Donahue. We will never make the Tournament being 301st in the nation in rebounding, giving up 24 offensive rebounds to GT and 13 offensive rebounds to Bryant. We need a reliable big man to give the Eagles an inside presence. Please get Thomas Hamilton just to score some points and give Clifford a break or look overseas like Pitt did when they got Steven Adams the 7 footer from New Zealand. As for Caudill, he needs to hit the pavement and get to a shape where he can play at least 10 minutes a game. I had high hopes that he could be a quality low-post guy, but has come up as disappointing as JaMarcus Russell. The Don also has to start thinking about 2017 when all these sophomores graduate and we will be left with Rahon, possibly Hanlan, and Owens as our upperclassmen.

FREE THROWS!- If you can't make free throws, you will have a hard time following step #3. It is such a simple part of the game yet the Eagles like so many other teams struggle to make them consistently. 71.2% is tied for 111th in the country which really has hurt us in close games such as the Miami and NCST losses at home. Donahue really needs to address this issue this off-season and make these guys shoot 1000 free throws a day.

Finish the opponent off- Tied 55-55 with 3 minutes left vs Miami, loses 68-59. Up 61-56 on #4 Duke with 2 minutes left, loses 62-61. Just some of the more notable examples of BC not closing out games they are either tied or leading in during crunch time. Some of it is free throws, some of it is just not making shots. I don't think you can do much to make this team better in crunch time as it probably comes with experience, but it needs to be resolved.

Student Section- or lack thereof. It's safe to say that Boston College isn't one of the toughest places to play which really hurts the program. Now I understand that attendance is tied to success but it really is a turn off for recruits who want to play in front of a full house rather than a bunch of empty seats. Along with that, better fans can only improve our play at home can it not?

Hire an assistant that preaches defense- Not my idea (I can't remember who came up with this. Please mention it in the comments.) but it's a fantastic idea. Kenpom has us 180th in the country in defense which is 11th in the ACC. Any improvement on the defensive end, including at the end of games, could be very beneficial to this team.

Better players- I know these guys will improve over the off season but I think the Eagles really need to get better individually. Odio needs to gain a few pounds to challenge some of the 4's in the ACC. Anderson can become a deadly player if he can improve his mid-range jumper. I'd love to see Lonnie Jackson become a better defender or a shot creator instead of jacking up 3s all the time. Make Hanlan and Rahon better distributors. Help Rubin become a contributor off the bench. Get Clifford to improve his offensive ability. Scoring 4 points in your last 8 ACC games including not a single point in his last 5 games isn't gonna get us anywhere. As for the group as a whole, more consistency is just what we need to get winning streaks like the one we had at the end of the year.

Looking ahead prematurely to next season. I think a lot of our success next season depends on how much Clifford will contribute next season. If he comes back and has a solid season then i think we'll be dancing. If not, Its gonna be tough to clinch out spot in March. I look back at what could have been a quality season had we finish some games and beat a few teams we should have beaten(*cough* Bryant *cough*), and I feel optimistic.

My Predictions:
21-11 11-7 ACC
NCAA Tournament Play-in Game

[Ed. note -- Front page'd]

Profile in Conte: Ryan Anderson

As a BC basketball fan who is wildly optimistic about the future, I wanted to do some digging into who I’m actually rooting for. As the second profile in the nine part series, I wanted to profile/critique/understand Mr. Steady Ryan Anderson. This post was originally seen at The Koubek Project.

What the Web Says: Ryan Anderson is a 6’8, 220 pound sophomore from Lakewood, CA. He went to Long Beach Poly High, the storied school that produced a bevy of football greats – Desean Jackson, Willie McGinest, Marcedes Lewis, 200 USC football players. Heck the Jackrabbits even produced Tony Gwynn, Chase Utley, and non-board game Milton Bradley for baseball as well. Anderson also played AAU with Lonnie Jackson and Bear (K.C. Caudill) during his high school years.

Background from 2012: Coming into BC last year, I felt Ryan Anderson had the highest expectations due to his Mr. California award senior year. I still feel this is underplayed – California produces a lot of talent in basketball and Anderson had an incredible frame to fill out (somewhere Jay Bilas is dimming the lights).

With these high expectations, I was a bit disappointed last year despite the fact that he averaged a 11.2-7.4 his freshman year, started 28 games, and named to the All-ACC Freshman team. He did come along the second half of his freshman year. After averaging 9.3 points per game over his first 23 games, he dropped 16.3 points per game over his final 8 ACC games. Although he had the maddening tendency to whine to referees, I think most BC fans were very high on his future at the Heights.

Ryan Anderson’s 2013 Season as told through the Hype Cycle:

Technology Trigger

As we are all renaissance men (and women) who graduated with a holistic Jesuit education, I thought I’d try to tie a theme from our marketing classes to Ryan Anderson. The technology trigger is the beginning of an emerging technology’s hype cycle, or the point where this initially curve upwards in an exponential way. This was Anderson’s first few games coming out of the gate. Coming into the season, Ryan entered the BC collective conscience as a dangly, skilled, petulant sophomore who clearly had the size and skill set to intrigue.

You heard from our trip to Europe that he looked very sharp, and when he first walked onto the floor you could tell he gained 15 pounds of muscle to his frame. Cue to Bilas licking his lips.

Peak of Inflated Expectations

The first two months of the 2012 season, many believe we even had a potential ACC Player of the Year on the floor. After averaging a robust 22.7 the first three games, he kept the pace up throughout non-conference play. If you exclude the Auburn and Bryant games where he was in foul trouble throughout, he would have averaged 18 per game. His first two ACC games also fed into the hype cycle, after a 22-11 in a near upset of NC State then dropping 26-9 at VaTech for our first road ACC victory since Brown v. Board of Education.

Trough of Disillusionment

From this Virginia Tech game, Ryan Anderson slowly, almost imperceptibly, started to wear down. From the period of January 12th to February 24th, Anderson was beat down. Much of the blame lies with Clifford playing time cut in half due to injury (from 20.1 to 10.9 minutes per game since the VaTech game). When you are spending all your energy keeping Alex Len of the scoreboard, you tend to conserve your energy on the offensive end). Yet he also seemed mentally disengaged after a streak of particularly close losses versus NC St, Miami, Duke, Maryland, Wake Forest, and FSU.

Whatever the case may be, his poor shot selection led his shooting performance dip to 56-130 (43%) from the VaTech game to the second Duke game. Which leads us to. . .

Slope of Enlightenment

He seemed to bounce back in the Cameron Indoor atmosphere, and carried our team along with Sir Olivier Hanlon. His next N.C. State game was rough but then he proceeded to help contribute healthy performances against UVA, Clemson, and GT (twice). The Clemson game was particularly impressive 18-11 facing off against big men Milton Jennings and Devin Booker. Also to be factored in is Eddie Odio’s impressive rise, aided immeasurably by the double teams Anderson demands.

Plateau of Productivity

Nearing the conclusion of his sophomore season, it is clear to me that Anderson is at least a 3rd Team All-ACC player, regardless of what a few basketball writers from the greater Greensboro, NC decide. In the next couple of years, it is likely he will continue to handsomely fill out the stat sheet and be a perennial 2nd team All-ACC player for the entirety of his career. I've come to the realization that Anderson is not the "drop to your knees" revelation like Sir Olivier is, especially after the 41 point special against Georgia Tech. Is this a bad thing? No! He is still an All-ACC 2nd team-er, someone every other team in the conference would take in a heartbeat.

Look Alike Contest? Ryan Anderson is just one of those guys that reminds you of someone. I am not sure who it is but he looks exactly like him. I have settle for Drake right now, but am still not entirely sure that who he exactly looks like. If anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear.

What the Stats Tell Us: For Ryan, I feel this is the stats paint a disjointed, consistent, and sometimes disquieting portrait. Below are Ryan Anderson’s annualized (per-40 minute) freshman and sophomore year stats, which include everything up to the final two Georgia Tech games.

The old adage says the biggest leap for a player is between their freshman and sophomore years. So with that in the back of your head, do these stats portray a dramatically improved player? Did Anderson just play more this year? Why is he turning the ball over more?

To the first question I say "Yes and No." His 2-PT% and scoring are up but everything else seems to have plateaued. For the other two questions, I'll nervously look around and mutter "I don't know, whatever."

For leading the team in fouls as well as having a good to great mid-range game, Anderson is also curiously abysmal at shooting free throws. He is the second worst on the team, outside of Dennis Clifford. he's actually gotten worse since last year, from 67% to 63.4%.

Also, in games where Anderson has scored more than 20 points, Boston College is 3-3. You would expect a better record, but I personally feel this stat is a bit deceiving. Even in games where he is cold, I have never felt that he was "gunning" for stats. For example, when Hanlon scored 20+, we are 3-2. Yet, it is still worth mentioning that we don't need Anderson to dominate the ball to win (or not lose)

What the Stats Don’t Tell Us: The statistics reflect his consistency but not his diversified games. His game is like a well balanced portfolio that includes T-Bills, mutual funds, high growth stock, and dividends. Unlike Lonnie Jackson’s 3-point game, whose game is similar to volatile tranches of housing debt, Anderson can score by using his Dirk-ish fade away, back to the basket moves, or slashing skills. It is a joy to watch and guarantees a certain amount of consistency, no matter how much his shot is dropping.

He is also the King of the Cheap Foul. Miss a 3 footer and frustrated? Slap the rebounder on the arm. Think there should have been a call right there? Scream indiscriminately like Tarzan and get a technical. Side tangent: I love how he never looks the ref in the eyes when he yells, even though he is getting a tech anyway. If you’re going to get the tech, than you might as well get your money's worth and embarrass a 50 year old man. You don't have to act like Andrew Bynum (insert link), but smirk like Kobe and shake head. Am I right on this? Do I have problem here?

Finally, (On a Completely Unrelated Note) Our ACC Announcer of the Year:

Cory Alexander, the color commentator on the ACC Network (aka Channel 38), wins Channel 38 announcer of the year on my card. His insistence that BC played in County Forum led me to believe that I should have checked out the County Fair sometime during my four year stint at BC. He also decided that the Rose Bowl has been supplanted by the ACC Basketball Tournament as the "GrandDaddy of Them All." Even ACC commissioner John Swofford would have a tough time swallowing that Kool-Aid. Below, is our twitter exchange after the first Georgia Tech game. Let's just say Cory's answer wasn't as thorough as I had hoped.

2013 Football Season Tickets

Has anyone been contacted to renew their '13 football season tickets yet? Has anyone heard anything new recently about getting a parking pass close to Alumni Stadium with the purchase of season tickets? Is there anything new in relation to St. John's Seminary land use during the 6 home games? Does anyone think that the master plan is being changed or added to so that the BC powers-to-be can make a major upgrade the athletic facilities? Thanks

2012 NCAA Football Relegation League: Weeks 8-10

2012 NCAA Relegation: Weeks 8-10 - Eagles go 0 for MAC

Ten weeks down and just three more to go in our 2012 NCAA Football Relegation league. The conference title races are taking definite shape, although no one has clinched a division title yet.

As for your Eagles, not such a great three week period. BC finished an 0 for 3 season against the Mid American Conference by losing at Kent State in 3 OTs, then dropping a two point game at Alumni to Brad Bates' old school, Miami of Ohio and then finally breaking the four game skid by nipping the North Texas Mean Green in OT in Denton, TX.

This puts BC at 4-5 overall and in need of two more wins to reach bowl eligibility. The road though is not easy down the stretch although BC does have two home games left. They start with Purdue (6-3), then off to Tampa to play South Florida (4-5) and finish with division leading Utah State (9-1). You get the feeling that the Eagles need to find a way to knock off the Boilermakers this week or else face the possibility of dropping their final three.

A review of the last three games.

October 20, 2013 - Kent,OH - Last second TD foils Eagles upset bid, BC loses in 3 OTs

Dri Archer's 19 yard touchdown run in the 3rd overtime lifted Kent State to a 47-41 come from behind win over Boston College. Trayion Durham had completed the rally for the Golden Flashes, who trailed 28-10 at the end of the third quarter, with a four yard touchdown run and subsequent two point conversion to tie the game at 31 with just three seconds left and force the OT.

BC (3-4) which trailed 10-0 at the end of the first quarter, rallied with 28 straight points in the middle two frames. Donte Elliott got the Eagles on the board with a 17 yard reception from Chase Rettig (30-53 404 5 TD, 2 INT), with 2:15 to go in the half. BC held the Flashes to a three and out and scored just with 27 seconds left in the half on a CJ Parsons 4 yard scoring catch, following two big plays by Bobby Swigert gaining 43 yards to the KSU 19.

The third quarter continued the Eagle onslaught, with Swigert and Chris Pantale hauling in Rettig passes to build the lead to 28-10 before the roof caved in.

Even leading 31-23 with 3:07 left following a Nate Freese FG wasn't enough as Kent State (5-2) drove 12 plays and 72 yards in 2:50. They converted two fourth downs along with a huge 42 yard pass from Spencer Keith to Eric Adeyemi. On after two Keith scrambles netted nothing, an incomplete pass left KSU with just one play and seven seconds and Durham ran off tackle to close the gap to 31-29. Keith then ran in the two point try to remarkably send the game into OT.

Both teams mustered FGs in the first OT, BC missing out on a first and goal from the five which could have won the game. In the second OT, Rettig hit Spiffy Evans with a 15 yard strike only to see Durham tie the game again at 41 on the first play from scrimmage with a 25 yard run.

In the third OT, It was Archer, who only needed two runs, the second of 19 yards to put the Flashes back up 47-41 after a missed two point attempt. Rettig couldn't counter this time, throwing his second pick of the game, this one to Luke Batton on the 23 to end the contest.

Andre Williams lead the rushers with 87 yards on 23 attempts, while Alex Amidon caught 8 balls for 111 yards to continue his outstanding season. Kent State ran for a remarkable 343 yards, piling up 514 yards total offense.

Box score here.

October 27, 2013 - Chestnut Hill, MA - Eagles lose again, this time on last second TD pass, 40-38

Zac Dysert found Nick Harwell on an 8 yard pass as time expired giving Miami OH a shocking come from behind 40-38 win over BC at Alumni Stadium.

This is the second week in a row that the Eagles (3-5) have held a lead with under 10 seconds to go and seen it wind up in a loss and the second week in a row they have blown a 15 or more point lead.

Miami (4-4) sandwiched two Kaleb Patterson field goals around a Chase Rettig 13 yard touchdown run to make it 7-6 BC after one quarter. The teams combined for 35 second quarter points including three Rettig touchdown passes to Johnathan Coleman (6 yards), Bobby Swigert (11 yards) and a 52 yarder to Alex Amidon (7 receptions, 177 yards), but the Red Hawks hung tough and took the lead 34-28 at the end of three behind Zac Dysert's 7 yard pass to Jamire Westbrook and his own 6 yard run.

BC took the lead back with 7:41 to go in the game when Rettig tossed his fifth TD pass of the game, this one to David Dudeck and Nate Freese looked he added an insurance 23 yard field goal with just 1:37 to go to put BC on top 38-34, but as has happened all year long, the defense could not hold up.

Dysert (29-51 421 4 TDs, 2 INT) marched Miami 69 yards in 17 plays in the last 1:36, converting three fourth down situations including on fourth and goal from the 8 with 0:02 left, hitting Harwell for the game winner as time expired.

Chase Rettig threw for 364 yards (23-41, 4 TD, 2 INT) as BC gained 509 yards of total offense, but simply couldn't stop the Red Hawks who gained 523 yards of their own.

Box score here.

November 3, 2013 - Denton, TX - Eagles break losing streak, stop Mean Green in OT

Sean Sylvia intercepted Derek Thompson's pass on the first play of overtime leading to Andre Williams 3 yard touchdown run which prevented yet another last second disaster as BC rallied from a 22-7 third quarter deficit and beat North Texas 32-25.

After blowing leads in the fourth quarter of the past two games, BC (4-5) found itself in a similar situation after coming back from 22-7 to take a 25-22 lead with just 0:35 left on a Nate Freese 24 yard field goal only to see North Texas (4-5) tie the game on Zach Olen's 29 yard field goal at the gun, forcing overtime.

Trailing 22-7 in the third quarter, the Eagles pulled to within 8 when Chase Rettig connected with Spiffy Evans on a 13 yard TD and then tied the game on Rettig's three yard run and Williams 2 point conversion with just 4:15 left.

After forcing a North Texas punt with 2:11 left, Rettig (26-40 349 1 TD, 2 INT), then lead BC from its own 31 on a 7 play, 62 yard drive culminating with Nate Freese's kick to give the Eagles the lead. Miraculously though, the Mean Green would not go away. On third and one from their own 37 with just 18 seconds left, Thompson connected with Darnell Smith for 51 yards to the BC 12 where Olen tied the game and forced the OT.

Alex Amidon once again led the receivers with 7 catches for 103 yards, while Andre Williams ran for 99 yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns.

BC returns to action hosting Purdue (6-3) next week.

Box score here.

BC cumulative nine game stats here.

Across the country, no team has clinched a league title yet, but several are closing in.

In Conference A, Alabama (9-0) needs only one win or Notre Dame loss to lock up the title and a semifinal berth. Florida State's win against LSU gave them a 2 game lead at 9-0 with 3 to play. Oklahoma State remained unbeaten and holds a one game lead, with the head to head tiebreaker over Florida and unbelievably, Vanderbilt (9-1) holds a half game lead with the tie breaker over Oklahoma in Division 4.

Current standings here

Current playoff matchups across the board would be:

Conference A: #4 Vanderbilt at #1 Alabama, #3 Oklahoma State at #2 Florida State

Conference B: #4 Virginia at #1 Fresno State, #3 Arizona State at #2 Utah State

Conference C: Colorado State vs Troy

39 teams are currently bowl eligible (6 wins or more), while 31 are bowl ineligible (7 wins or less, unless there are not enough 6 win teams).

Interestingly 10 bowl eligible teams from 2012 are NOT bowl eligible in our league already.

The next update at the conclusion of the regular season!

2012 NCAA Relegation: Weeks 8-10 - Eagles go 0 for MAC

Silk Suspended, Roster Keeps Dwindling

Hockey East announced a one game suspension for freshman forward Brendan Silk, stemming from a headshot in last Saturday's game against Providence. Silk will miss Friday's penultimate regular season game against Vermont.

Silk's suspension compicates an already dire roster situation for the Eagles. Kevin Hayes is out for the year; Patch Alber is out for at least the remainder of the regular season; Patrick Wey is likely out for this weekend's games, and Stephen Whitney left Saturday's game with an injury and did not return.

If Whitney and Wey can't go on Friday, BC will dress only 16 healthy skaters, two fewer than the limit. Of those 16, forwards Cam Spiro and Peter McMullen have a combined 22 games between them this season and McMullen has hardly seen the ice when dressed. Additionally, defenseman Colin Sullivan has been used sparingly since his return from a concussion more than a month ago, with forward Danny Linell seeing more time on defense than Sullivan during Wey's absence last Saturday.

BC has had issues with scoring depth most of the season, lost freshman Frank Vatrano before a single game was played this year, have had injuries piling up since Alber went down in the Mariucci Classic over the hoildays, and have some crticial players slumping an an inopportune time. Things are reaching a critical mass now, with fewer healthy players than there are roster spots and forwards taking regular turns on the blueline while the top of Hockey East gets even more crowded. Even so, Coach York didn't hesitate to further shorten his bench last Saturday, piling huge minutes on his remaining top guns while playing a late afternoon tilt following a game the previous night. It'll be interesting to see how he handles the further depleted ranks this weekend with BC jockeying for final seeding position in advance of the playoffs.
