The issue is case-by-case and overanalyzed to the point of exhaustion. But it’s still important to recognize why BC decided to back Northwestern, and effectively the principle that student-athletes don’t hold a "status of employment"

2. Eight schools are the most hated in their own states: Washington, Arizona State, BYU, Creighton, Louisville, North Carolina, Boston College and Mississippi State. Most of these are programs with one or more in-state rivals who boast similar or larger fan bases. The lone big surprise in my eyes is Boston College being the most hated team in Massachusetts since the Eagles are probably the state's flagship program. Maybe Boston College fans spread their hatred evenly among schools like UConn, Providence, Duke and Syracuse, whereas other fan bases in the state united in their dislike of the Eagles.

Is this just another signal that it is going to be a LONG season for the Demon Deacons?

This is probably the schedule Boston College wishes it had last year: No true road games until league play, four games against likely top-100 teams, with the possibility of one or two more, and a few breathers tossed in as well. Alas, the run of road games (plus three more in New York) wore down the Eagles, and there was basically no hope of a recovery by New Year's. Boston College won't have a top-50 nonconference schedule this year, thanks in large part to the dead weight at the bottom of its slate. It probably won't have a top-100 nonconference schedule, and may not even land in the top 150. And that's not a problem, because let's face it: Thanks to player attrition, this isn't a team that's going to become great overnight. It doesn't need to worry about RPI concerns; it simply needs to get itself closer to .500 and show improvement as Christian goes about rebuilding the program. This schedule should help with those aims.

Top 5 Impending NCAA Hockey Free Agents (Kevin Hayes is #1)

+

"Even casual fans see Hayes as the top impending free agent and almost everyone envisions him signing in one of two places. Hayes was one-third of the always dangerous top line at Boston College alongside Johnny Gaudreau and Bill Arnold, and both are prospects of the Calgary Flames. Surely the Flames would love to the complete line to their organization at the same time? The other popular assumption is that to play with his older brother Jimmy in Florida will be Kevin's choice. It certainly makes sense as Kevin followed Jimmy to Boston College too. But let's be honest, while it's reasonable to suggest those two outcomes would seem to be the most likely, 27 other teams could call and make an offer that changes everything else. After all, who wouldn't want to add a 6'4, 220lb forward that scored 27 goals and 65 points in 40 games last year?"
