Bob Ryan: Common Goal on Comm. Ave.

+

"But the simple fact is that BC won in 2008, BU won in 2009, the schools practically abut, and the coaches have been going at it since the Johnson administration (with the possibility they hooked up as peewees under JFK). There’s nothing like it in college sport, and it’s ours, all ours."

USCHO: Freshman Ryan Leaves BC for Major Juniors

+

Some (not so hot) hockey news for your Thursday evening. "Freshman winger Kenny Ryan has left Boston College, coach Jerry York said Thursday. Ryan is expected to join the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League. The move comes after Ryan played in two exhibition games with BC. The Eagles open the season Sunday at Vermont. A second-round draft pick of the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs this year, the 6-foot, 204-pound Ryan played two seasons with the U.S. National Team Development Program."

Our Thoughts And Prayers With Charlie Davies

"A striker with the U.S. soccer team was injured [during] a fatal crash on the George Washington Memorial Parkway Tuesday morning. Charlie Davies was in the area with the team for a World Cup qualifier, ESPN.com reported. He was in stable condition following surgery Tuesday afternoon. Though his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, they could possibly be career-threatening, a U.S. Soccer Federation spokesman told The Washington Post." Shinskie Has Nowhere To Go But Up, Right?

4

"So how bad was it? According to Marty Couvillon of cfbstats.com, Shinskie had a pass-efficiency rating of minus-22.20. That's the worst rating in the last five-plus seasons for players with 10 or more pass attempts in a game. As for bad passing performances this season, Shinskie has company, and it's on his own team. Fellow quarterback Justin Tuggle completed only four of 20 passes in the Eagles' 25-7 loss to Clemson on Sept. 19. One of Tuggle's passes went for a touchdown, but three were intercepted." ACC Sports: Why Are We Always Wrong About BC?

+

ACCSports.com's Jim Young sits down at the dinner table with Eagle Action's Eric Hoffses, eats heaping portion of crow. "I should have known better. I should have known I was battling history. But I did it anyway. I picked Boston College to finish last in the ACC Atlantic Division. So far the Eagles are making me look pretty silly, thanks to two straight conference home wins that have them in second place in the Atlantic."
