Recent Boston College hockey alums Pat Mullane and Andrew Orpik have become the most recent Eagles to spearhead a tremendous effort to raise money and awareness for ALS research, creating the inaugural Comm. Ave Charity Classic hockey game - a BC vs. BU alumni hockey game to raise money for Compassionate Care ALS.
When we first posted on the event on Friday, we knew it would be a great event that would raise a lot of money for a good cause. What we didn't know was just how star-studded the event would be. A number of recently-departed college stars will be bringing their skills to the fabled Walter Brown Arena, former legendary home of the BU men's hockey team.
For BC fans in attendance, the roster will be a walk down memory lane to relive some great teams. The entire Gaudreau-Arnold-Hayes line is slated to play. Chris Kreider is on the BC roster as well. Patrick Brown, captain of the 2014 Frozen Four team and he of the sprawling Beanpot game winner, will be there too.
Brian Dumoulin, Paul Carey, and Jimmy Hayes will round out the list of players who were present for the 2012 national title in Tampa. Joe Whitney, Brian Gibbons and John Muse will wave the flag for those who brought home two titles in Denver and Detroit.
Dave Spina, Jeff Giuliano and Mike Mottau will represent some of the great BC teams of the early 2000s. And perhaps coolest of all, Brian Leetch, one of the great American players of all time, is scheduled to play too.
On the BU side, the roster is a bit lighter right now, but Jay Pandalfo, Charlie Coyle and Adam Clendening are among the BU NHL alums slated to take part. It should be interesting to see who else ends up on their roster as there are certainly a number of players to choose from from both recent and vintage great teams. Maybe Eichel can join in once he decides to sign with Buffalo right after the draft. :)
The game will be on Friday, July 10 at 7 PM at Walter Brown Arena and tickets can be purchased here, with proceeds going to Compassionate Care ALS.
