Despite playing .500 hockey for the last month, the Boston College Eagles haven't fallen too far in the national polls. The Eagles remain at the No. 2 spot this week in the latest USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, but dropped to No. 3 in the USCHO.com poll.
In the USA Today poll, Minnesota is your #1 this week, followed by BC, Notre Dame, New Hampshire and Quinnipiac. Miami, North Dakota, BU, Denver and Western Michigan round out the top 10. The USCHO.com poll follows this closely, with the only change in the top 10 swapping BC for Notre Dame at the 2 spot.
Lowell is the only other Hockey East team ranked in either poll this week, hanging onto the 20th and final spot in this week's USCHO.com poll. The River Hawks are 9-7-1 overall, but just 3-6-1 in Hockey East play (good for a tie with Northeastern for the 8th and final playoff spot).
In other rankings, the Eagles are:
According to playoffstatus.com, BC, New Hampshire and Quinnipiac all have greater than a 99 percent chance of making the NCAA Tournament. The Eagles and Wildcats currently have the best chances at bringing home a title (12%).
To be honest, this is the perfect spot for the Eagles. Removed from the top spot in both polls but clinging to #1 in the PairWise. I'd rather BC didn't have the target on its back during the second half stretch run, one that could prove very successful for the Eagles should they get past New Hampshire this weekend.
Regardless, the enormity of this weekend's home-and-home with UNH cannot be overstated. Huge PWR and Hockey East title implications.
