A day after interviewing for the vacant Purdue head coaching position, Butch Jones hopped on a plane and headed to Boulder to interview for the Colorado job. After receiving what is reportedly a 5-year, $13.5 million offer from Colorado, Jones has re-buffed the Boilers and is PAC-12 bound.
While BC did reportedly reach out to Jones, I didn't think the current Cincinnati Bearcats coach was all that high on Brad Bates' wish list. Where this does gets interesting for Boston College is which coaching candidate Purdue targets next. GoldandBlack.com, Purdue's Rival affiliate, is reporting that Kent State coach Darrell Hazell is on the Boilermakers radar.
While the Butch Jones wait is on, a source tells us Kent State coach Darrell Hazell is 'in play' for #Purdue.— GoldandBlack.com (@GoldandBlackcom) December 4, 2012
In addition to Hazell, SB Nation's Hammer and Rails thinks Purdue should give Louisiana Tech HC Sonny Dykes a call, seeing as he's not coaching in a bowl game and all. It's probably only a matter of time before Purdue takes a long look at another Brian Kelly disciple, Notre Dame defensive coordinator Bob Diaco.
Sounds like things are progressing with Bates' search, but with the 44-year old Jones reportedly off the board, Purdue still in the market for a new HC (read: Hazell, Diaco) and Cincinnati soon to be in the market (read: Narduzzi), timing appears to be of the essence here.
Tick tock. Tick tock.
