Boston College Basketball: Alex Murphy Leaving Duke

Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY Sports

Could a gem fall into the hoop program's hands?

According to the Durham Herald-Sun, former five star recruit Alex Murphy, will transfer from Duke at the end of the current semester.

Murphy, a redshirt sophomore 6-foot-9 forward from South Kingstown, RI, whose brother Erik is now with the NBA Chicago Bulls after a very successful college career at the University of Florida, chose the Blue Devils over the Gators and Boston College back in 2011.  He ranked as the #15 recruit in the country before an injury dropped his minutes and with the arrival of players such as Jabari Parker in 2013, figured he would go elsewhere.

Murphy's father, Jay, was a star power forward/center for the Eagles in the early 1980s playing under Coach Tom Davis and Gary Williams and was three times selected to one of the All Big East teams.

Will BC get a second shot at Murphy? Is this a case where this team's early season struggles and any whiff of a coaching controversy could push him in another direction?
